Airborne Gunner Supercross & Rock it til Sundown Motocross back in 2022!
Get your marker pens out and get these written in to your 2022 calendar with confidence. The ‘Airborne Gunner Summer Supercross’ and ‘Rock it til Sundown Summer Classic’ will be taking place at Cusses Gorse MX on Tuesday 9th and Wednesday 10th August 2022 respectively.

Following the continued success of ‘Rock it til Sundown’ and their inaugural ‘Airborne Gunner Summer SX’ the Steel Hawk Motorcycle Club, aka, Julie Coyne, Paul Oughton and Jeff Perrett have agreed the dates with Cusses Gorse MX owners Christine and Justin Barclay and will be setting about planning both the events over the next month or so.
This year’s ‘Airborne Gunner’ drew a healthy crowd for it’s first running and was action packed with youth racing right through to the U.K’s top Supercross riders like Dylan Woodcock, Joe Clayton, Adam Chatfield and the 2021 champion Jack Brunell. Racers as young as three took to the track in the ‘Revvi Cup’ electric balance bike race which was a big hit with the crowd, especially seeing how fit, or unfit the parents were chasing around after them. The evening finished in style with the ‘Fox Cool Whip’ competition.
‘Rock it til Sundown’ was also pumping with the action the following day. Again with plenty of full line ups on the start gate from the Auto Class up to the adult Experts and the introduction of the U.K’s first MX ‘Joker Lane’ in the ‘Relax to Race’ Superfinal mixed things up and made it interesting all the way to the final chequered flag, which was taken by Josh Gilbert who took home the ‘Rock it til Sundown’ perpetual guitar trophy.
The Steel Hawk Motorcycle Club are also looking to add some new events to their portfolio of the ‘Helter Skelter Hillclimb’, ‘Airborne Gunner Summer SX’ and ‘Rock it til Sundown Summer MX Classic’ for 2022 and all being well they will be announcing them soon, but for now they are happy to confirm the continuation of their Airborne Gunner SX and Rock it til Sundown combined back to back event as Paul explains;
“After time to reflect on our Airborne Gunner SX and going back to back with Rock it til Sundown we’ve decided to go for it again and build on it. It was really hard work going back to back days for what is effectively two separate events. We pushed ourselves to our limit with the staff we had but now we know what we need to do to not make it so stressful for us as event organisers and our awesome crew. The main thing is it was well received and we had such positive feedback and encouragement to do it again from the riders and fans and that is why we’ll keep the two events together and build on the festival style feel in the summer school holidays. As we’ve seen this year, there’s always a lot of events on over a weekend so we’ll be continuing to run midweek like we did from the start.
“We’re happy to be running the Airborne Gunner SX again, but this time we’ll be having organised practice and training days before the event. We’re excited about 2022 and if our plans for other events come off and the off road motorcycling calendar gets back to some kind of normality I think we’ll have a nice mix of varying fun events for all ages and abilities through the year, that is after all why we started Steel Hawk Motorcycle Club in the first place.”
