Hooley & Williams crowned at Warmingham! 2026 AMCA British Motocross Championship Finale at Warmingham Lane – Race Report & Results

Race with your head, not your heart; keep one step ahead of your closest rivals and don’t record a dreaded DNF- that was surely the battle instructions for riders closing in on the 2026 AMCA British Motocross Championship titles. And, in the final round of the series supported by Rokit Tyres at Warmingham Lane last weekend, it’s fair to say that just about all of the series leaders perfectly executed and followed those battle instructions to thus safely bring the glory home!

Opening proceedings on a superbly prepped Warmingham Lane by the organising Middlewich MXC was the MX2 class in which defending Champion Henry Williams was well on course to keep his crown, holding a 52-point advantage. On day one, the FUS Marsh MX Honda pilot went 3/2 as the very much in-form Finley Evans on the Southern Conservatories Honda scorched to a brace of super wins. In both clashes, Wulfsport’s teenager Jayden Jones, wildcard rider Jack Grayshon, Lee Truman and Yarin Evans were also right in contention. So those results meant that going into day two, Williams required just another seven points to secure glory and he duly got the job done in Sunday’s opening moto as the classy Finley Evans took another win from Jones. With the crown now safely in the bag, Williams then finished the campaign in style with a win from Finley Evans, Jones, Yarin Evans, Truman and Grayston. In the final Championship table, Finley Evans was the runner-up from Jones, who, along with winner Williams, were without doubt the three outstanding and very dominant riders in the 2026 MX2 class.

Going into this final round, teenager Tyla Hooley on the Leeds Pallets KTM and in his AMCA debut season led the Open class by a very manageable 36 points. Chasing him, though, was the defending Champion James Dodd, who knew that he faced a fairly monumental but not impossible task to keep his title retention hopes alive. And indeed, the FUS Marsh MX star started his quest in style by scoring a typically composed opening moto win seeing off Hooley, McKenzie Marshall, Josh Waterman, Will Hughes and Jayden Ashwell.

After that win for Dodd, moto two, though, was then to dramatically produce the moment that was to all but end his hopes of reeling in Hooley in the Championship race. As Marshall hit the front, Dodd and Hooley were really going for it and disputing 2nd spot only to collide heavily when going for the same race line on the exit from a fast corner. With Hooley initially trapped under his machine and requiring assistance to free himself, thankfully both riders were able to remount and start moving forward again. Battered and bruised and with a badly torn race shirt almost hanging off his back, Holley was to eventually get home in 4th behind race winner Marshall, Hughes and Jimmy Margetson as Dodd took 5th.

Now holding a 35-point advantage with just two moto’s of the series remaining, Holley then finished the job in style by scoring a couple of super wins. In moto four, being typical of the Yorkshire lad’s talent, he stormed through from 7th to bag victory. With a final series top three of Holley, Dodd and Hughes, Tyron Cleaver bagged a great 4th despite enduring a very expensive final round! After the gearbox on his Yamaha expired during practice, the Gloucestershire rider then had to first borrow, then buy a bike to complete the event! Also, special mention to AJP rider Margetson, who, having his very first outing on a 450F Ducati, brought it home in 4th overall, just missing out on a podium finish.

If the destination of most of the AMCA Championship titles looked relatively straightforward, in contrast the battle for the 125cc crown promised a thrilling climax as Ashley Harland and Lee Sealey entered the finale locked together at the top on 482 points apiece with Jordan Wright also in the mix. The expected excitement, though, was never to really materialise, and that was down to the sheer brilliance of Harland! In a totally composed and classy fashion, the GCR/Pure MX GasGas rider led the opening moto all the way, scoring a big win as Sealey, the very impressive Bradley Tranter riding from under the Midwest Racing Husqvarna awning, Jordan Wright, Toby Adamson, Linc Hasted and Sean Smout were next up. In moto two, Harland was at it again with another super gate-to-flag win, as his title rival Sealey had to settle for 4th as both Wright and the quick Tranter got ahead of him.

Despite his day one dominance, Harland’s advantage at the top of the standings was only 10 points entering the final two motos, so it was definitely still all to play for. Making light work though of the job in hand, he then wrapped up the title with another brace of victories. The last race of the campaign was really typical of just how good this 125cc class has been throughout 2026 with a fantastic four-way battle at the front. Initially, Sealey grabbed the holeshot before eventually being pushed back by Harland, Wright and Tranter. Just outside that top four was the fast-starting and very entertaining Wildcard Simon Booth, Adamson and Smout, all right on the gas at Warmingham Lane. In the 125cc Youth class, Bobby Watson had carried a 59-point advantage into the finale and a 5th place overall was enough to earn him the title ahead of Smout and Adamson, who had jumped from 5th up into 3rd. In fantastic form throughout the weekend, Adamson also scored the overall round seven win with Smout in 2nd and Stanley Siebert the 2025 BW85cc Champion in 3rd.

Whilst Wildcard rider Andrew Wilson scorched to maximum points in the Warmingham Over 40’s Vets class, the big question was who would claim the title, Jamie Dobson or defending Champion James Lane? Holding just a 12-point advantage at the top, Dobson then stretched that lead to 16 by scoring 3/2 placings on day one. Although Lane had crucially got home ahead of Dobson in moto one, the second clash did not go to plan and finding himself well down the leaderboard, James then had to work very hard to get back to 5th, with crucially Dobson, Dain Traylor and Lee Martin all ahead of him. Into day two and Dobson was to manage his points advantage with a calculated performance and a couple of composed 2nd places. That meant after 23 years of racing it was a first AMCA title for Dobson as the FUS Marsh MX pilot DJ Dain Traylor jumped ahead of both Sam Callow and Lee Martin to snatch 3rd in the final Championship table. In the last three rounds, Traylor has found some great speed and form whilst also enjoying the honour of recording several holeshots, adding another one to the list in Sunday’s opening moto!

Vets over 50’s top two as champion Simon Lane leads Matt Ryder

With Phil Mercer not entering the final round, the race for the 2026 AMCA Vets Over 50’s title was now a straight shoot-out between defending Champion Simon Lane and Matt Ryder. And in moto one there was to be drama as Ryder took the win whilst Lane suffered a slightly frightening moment when he overshot a downhill corner and then had to extract himself from a trackside bush! Undeterred, Simon recovered in style to finish in front of Ryder in all three of the remaining battles and thus ensure retention of his title, a great result following the serious injury he sustained in 2025! With another Vet’s Over 60’s title in the bag, Brian Staples finished the season in super style with maximum points. Taking 2nd both in the series and round was the equally consistent AJP boss Andrew Prosser, with Mark Tilzey in 3rd.

Despite having only been racing for less than five years, Caitlin Newman claimed her first ever motocross title at Warmingham, being crowned the 2026 AMCA Women’s Champion. Riding her 125cc TM, Caitlin has gallantly battled against a mixture of 250F, 250cc and 450F machines and thoroughly deserves her honours. Entering round seven holding a nice 60-point advantage, she comfortably secured the title on day one before going on to earn 6th overall for the weekend. Taking the Warmingham win was Libby Chatburn and boy was she fast! Mixing it with not only her fellow Ladies but also those fast Vet aces, Libby started with a brilliant 6th before going 10/10/8. During round seven, Grace Bates was the runner-up from Hannah Jones, Jaymee Garrood and Amber McGregor. In the final Championship table, it was a top three of Caitlin, Hannah and Jaymee with just a very narrow 7 points separating the latter two girls.

In the week before the finale, BW85cc Youth series leader Mason Brown and his dad had been sweating on the arrival of a new radiator for their SRH Racing KTM! Eventually the part arrived just a day before the Warmingham event, allowing Mason to then wrap up his title. Competing on day one only, he scored 3rd and 4th places as Wildcard Blake Marks-Bracey bagged the wins following a couple of epic scraps with Will Kremer. On day two, Kremer got revenge, taking the victories. Following another great battle in the third clash, Marks-Bracey unfortunately crashed out of the last one. In the final BW85cc Championship table, Kremer deservedly took the runners-up spot with Byron Wheldon in 3rd. Over in the SW85cc class, it was game over before round seven had even commenced as Oliver Moore was declared Champion due to the non-entry of Aaron Mercer, whilst Harvey Wood had already secured the 65cc title with one round to spare!

The immaculate George Clarke comfortably secured the Clubman Seniors title, requiring just one moto at Warmingham to get it done and in the bag. Throughout the weekend Clarke went 1/2/2/1 for another overall win but was made to work very hard by Wildcard Jack Waterman. On the CPMX Racing 250cc KTM, Waterman matched Clarke on points, losing out on the top slot due to the last moto tie-break rule. Taking 3rd overall was Charlie Ludwell with Mackenzie Tranter, Max Monk and Jack Hollis next up. In the final table, Ludwell took 2nd with Monk 3rd.

Whilst the eventual Clubman Seniors title verdict was fairly straightforward, in the Clubman Juniors it was still game on! Aboard the Radford Windows KTM, Charlie Osborne was 28 points clear of Lewis Perks with John Cox also in contention. Despite having led the title chase just about all the way, Osborne still had work to do and after Saturday’s racing Perks had clawed back another 5 points. With Perks then finishing one place ahead of Osborne in moto three that meant just 23 points separated the two riders going into the final clash of the season. Doing the maths though, Osborne only required a finish in 18th place to take home the title. Riding with great care and attention, Charlie was again just one place behind Perks, enough to secure his first-ever motocross title. Perks, after producing a valiant effort at Warmingham, did gain some consolation by finishing on the podium in 2nd behind winner Ryan Tilley and Oliver Proctor-Hollins in 3rd.

Before Sunday’s crucial, title-deciding motos started, the riders present completed a lap of the Warmingham Lane circuit in memory of Eddy Shermer, who had sadly passed away the previous week. Eddy was a motocross fanatic, regularly working the start gate at Lower Drayton and always prepared to help out with AMCA marshalling duties wherever required. A true character who loved the sport, RIP Eddy!

So, it’s massive congratulations to all of the 2026 AMCA British Motocross Champions, the Middlewich MXC on a great final round, AMCA Events, officials, marshals and indeed everyone involved in promoting the series.
