Milsom ends the season on a high! 2026 South Coast Scramble Club Finale - Race Report

Back on Sunday, October 18th, the South Coast Scramble Club hosted the season finale, which was their own Championships, as well as the conclusion of the AMCA South West Classic Championship at East Stour, near Shaftesbury in Dorset. As with other clubs this year a lot of effort had gone into running the event which was rewarded with a fair entry and with it had attracted many spectators to witness some close and fast racing.

As with other meetings this year, the Classic classes were combined, which was for Pre 65, Pre 68 and Pre 74. In the Pre 65 class there was a win for the 500 Triumph Cotton of Peter Woodthorpe with the other two wins going to the 500 Jawa of Thorne Pett who was to take the overall whereas in the Pre 68 class it was a battle royal in the opening encounter between the 500 Hickie Racing BSA of Luke Hickie and the 360 CZ of Neil Aldridge with Aldridge winning by less than half a bikes length and Aldridge was to continue with his winning ways in the other two races to give him a hattrick of wins and take the overall. Martin Stephens on his Yamaha 360 MX was to take the overall in the Pre 74 class, but he was made to work hard for it as Martin Farwell on his CZ 380 was to push him all the way and denied Stephens taking a clean sweep of wins, with Farwell winning the last race.

No 493 THORNE PETT, No 430 ROGER SIMS AND No 499 PETER WOODTHORPE BATTLING IT OUT FOR PRE 65 HONOURS

In the Twinshock A class there were a few top contenders missing, as with the penultimate round, but there was still some good racing to be seen, especially from Marcus Clare, who took the opening race in fine style on his 510 TC Husqvarna, but Clare had to jump on his spare bike for the second race, which was a 500 XR Curtis Honda when his Husqvarna wouldn’t start. Clare didn’t get a very good start in this one and had to fight his way up through the field and eventually did catch and pass the early leaders, both on 490 Maico’s Ben Hooper and Marcus Feltham and was to go on to claim his second win of the day, with Hooper just holding off Feltham on the line to take second. The third race again saw Hooper lead early doors from Feltham, with Clare tucked in third, who was soon up into second after Feltham went down, and Clare was to catch and pass Hooper again in the closing stages to make it a hattrick of wins and take the overall.

No 437 MARCUS CLARE WAS ON FIRE IN THE TWINSHOCK A CLASS

The Twinshock B class overall was to go to the 500 Rotax KTM of Chris Toulson, who took two race wins and a second with a name from the past in the shape of Stewart Penny on his 503 Husqvarna, taking the other race win to deny Toulson a clean sweep.

In the Twinshock C class it was really close in all three races between Nicholas Saunders on his CR 250 Husqvarna, Adrian Saunders on a 500 CR Honda and Phil Hunt on the Big 650 XR Honda but at the end of the day it was Nicholas who took the overall with a 2,1,1 scorecard ahead of Adrian who took the opening race win.

The Twinshock D class saw Alan O’Brien take the overall on his little 125 YZ Yamaha after taking the chequered flag in the opening two races comfortably, but he had no answer in the third race and had to settle for second behind the Maico of Scott Mortimer.

In the Combined Twinshock E and Ladies class it was Sean Cook on his 250 KX Kawasaki who took the opening E class win, with the other two wins going to Colin Ayles, but in the Ladies class there was a hat-trick of wins for Mia Milsom on her 175 RS Suzuki and Mia was also in the Twinshock E Championship and she was the one to watch in the third race as she holeshoted the race and led early doors and was being urged on by the many spectators who were still in attendance. Cook did catch Mia at one stage but he was to lose control and went into the ropes on a downhill righthander which gave Mia abit of breathing space before she then had to deal with pressure from Ayles and Harry Vincent on his 250 Red Rocket Honda at she entered the final lap but with the crowd behind her Mia held strong and took the chequered flag to much applause and to her delight.

No 141 NICK PHILLIPS HEADS THE OPENING UP TO 1989 EVO RACE

The up to 1989 Evo class was to be very fast, with some close racing and riders banging bars on many occasions. In the opening race it was the CR 250 Honda of Nick Phillips who led from the off, who was put under pressure straight away from Keirran Genge, James Teenan and Carl Luke, with Genge and Phillips eventually easing away on the third lap, but as they came to the second from last corner Genge was all over Phillips, but Phillips held the racing line and took the win by a whisker at the line.

No 21 TANISHA THOMAS AND No 781 TOM PAULLEY HAD A REAL TUSSLE IN THE SECOND UP TO 1989 EVO RACE

The second race was nigh on a carbon copy, with Genge getting the better of Phillips, the early leader, mid-race and went on to take the win by less than two seconds, so these two were tied on points going into the last race, which again was led by Phillips from the off. Teenan on his CR 500 Honda was being pressured by the little Cr 125 Honda of Luke and Genge mid-race, with Genge eventually finding a way past Luke and was soon breathing all over Teenan. Phillips was to go on untroubled at the front to take the win, but who was going to take second as they came into the second-to-last corner? Teenan took the wide line, whereas Genge went for the tight inside line, but Genge turned the power on a bit too quickly and spun out and went down. Teenan went on to take second, with Genge eventually coming home in fourth to give him second overall behind Phillips, with Teenan taking third overall.
