Williams wins out at Drayton! 2026 AMCA British Motocross Championship Round 4 - Race Report & Results

Great racing with many of the verdicts going right down to the wire was the story from a super round four of the 2026 AMCA British Motocross Championship held at Lower Drayton. Moto after moto and in all classes, battles raged right throughout the pack with vital Championship points at stake as the 2026 series passed its midway point. Yes, it was a treat for the spectators with the stand-out entertainment arguably being provided by some stunning 125cc and MX2 action!

Words and Images by Mike Wood

Starting with the 125’s and that class produced one of the star performances of the weekend as Ashley Harland reeled off four big moto wins, but his path to glory was to be far from straightforward! In the opening moto, Jordan Wright, despite a crash in timed qualifying, led the way from Harland, Aaron Colley, Patrick Gilligan and Bradley Tranter whilst series leader Lee Sealey had it all to do after finding himself well outside the top ten early on! Six laps in and Harland then hit the front before racing onto his first win of the weekend, chased home by Wright, whilst after his slow start Sealey got right back to 6th behind Colley, Tranter and Luke Phillips. Unfortunately, this 125cc opener saw Wildcard Neville Bradshaw crash heavily on lap one. Although he was then able to cruise back to the pits, his weekend was over with a trip to hospital required, so get well soon Nev!

Bobby Watson 3rd overall in the Youth 125cc class.

125cc moto two was all about a titanic battle at the front between the Championship top three, with Harland coming through to take control with just two laps remaining after passing both Wright and Sealey. Such was the pace of the top three that they had forged a big advantage over eventual 4th placed finisher Oakley Skinner. In this one it was Colley who had to work hard for his points, coming through to take a fine 6th as Tranter, Phillips and Charlie Palmer again recorded top ten finishes. Quick out of the gate, Wright led the third 125cc contest of the weekend under intense pressure from Sealey. Pushing hard to get to the front, Sealey then fell but quickly remounted; he only lost one place to Harland. One lap later and the super Harland then moved past Wright into pole position. Having another strong ride, Tranter got home 4th with Toby Adamson the top 125cc Youth rider next up. For Colley a rider with Championship winning aspirations Sunday’s opening moto proved costly as he had to come from last place up to 11th!

In the early stages of the last 125cc moto, Harland, who had made easily his best gate of the weekend disputed the leadership with Wright in a super no-holds-barred tussle until the latter crashed on lap five dropping back to 6th. At the front, Harland raced on in style to complete a great maximum score as Sealey, Franky Jubb, Colley and Wright followed him home. All weekend Adamson had been right in the mix, scoring 15/10/5/7, enough to earn him a richly deserved overall victory in the 125cc Youth class ahead of Ted Bullen, Bobby Watson, Stanley Siebert and series leader Skinner. Interestingly, in the main 125cc class, Harland has now moved up to 2nd and is just 18 points behind Sealey, with Wright just a further 17 points in arrears; let’s see what these 125cc boys produce during round five at Hawkstone Park!

Not to be outdone, the MX2 class also produced four quality encounters starting with a classic opener! In that one, Finley Evans, Henry Williams and finally Jayden Jones took turns to lead. As the moto progressed, the front trio then raced almost side by side for several laps with Jones eventually grabbing a narrow win as Ray Rowson took 4th from Lee Truman, Jimmy Margetson and Luke Meredith. In moto two, it was Margetson the early leader before a mistake dropped him back to 5th. At the front, Williams was to go on to take the win by the very narrowest of margins ahead of Jones. In the closing few laps, Jones had closed right up on Williams, but despite being literally right on his rival’s back wheel on more than one occasion, he could not quite find the drive to make a pass and earn victory! In this one, Meredith, having been struck on the knee by a large stone, then blasted from a distant last to bag a brave 8th.

In an incredible opening moto on Sunday, Margetson led all the way despite having Jones, Williams and Evans right on his tail! Margetson’s eventual victory was to be even more remarkable when it was discovered that a stone had punched a hole in his Triumph’s engine casing, thus losing oil as the moto progressed! Although in this battle an unwell Evans had dropped off the pace in the closing stages, he still took 4th with Rowson, Truman, Yarin Evans and Merdith next up. Having repaired the engine casing as best as possible and refilled with oil, Margetson was again quickest away in the final MX2 clash only for his engine to then seize on lap two! So, at the front it was Williams all the way despite again coming under pressure from Jones, with Rowson taking 3rd from Evans, Truman and Yarin Evans. The round four results mean that Jones has jumped from 4th up to 2nd in the standings, but it’s still defending Champion Williams on top and with a 55-point advantage.

Open class winner Tyla Hooley

Going into the Lower Drayton event, 20 points was the difference between Open class leader Tyla Hooley and James Dodd. And, following the latest action, that gap remains at the same total as these two outstanding riders matched each other score by score. Both recorded a brace of moto wins and second placings; Hooley’s final moto win on Sunday also meant that he was to be the overall victor of the event. The best race of the Open class contest between the leading duo came in moto two when the fast-starting Mackenzie Marshall led the way before Hooley took over. As Dodd then moved into 2nd, Hooley was still in control and looking the likely winner, but with the chequered flag in sight Dodd used all of his experience to cleverly stun his young rival with a brilliant late pass! Joining Hooley and Dodd on the Open class podium was Marshall whilst Josh Waterman also enjoyed his best meeting of the season so far. Right in contention for a place on the box, he was, though, forced out of the final moto when crashing after Ryan Crowder fell right in front of him, leaving him with simply nowhere to go! Although Josh was able to restart, his bike then shed a chain, so that meant a DNF. Right throughout the weekend, Ryan was also right on it, so let’s hope he’s fit enough to make the start at Hawkstone Park for round five! That last moto incident meant that Josh had to settle for 5th overall just behind Will Hughes and ahead of Joshua Fletcher-Williams, Ben White, Tyron Cleaver and Crowder.

Aaron Crowder leading Dain Traylor in a Vets battle

Proving to be a very entertaining and highly competitive class, the combined Vets and Women’s Championship also produced the goods at Lower Drayton. Jamie Dobson took the first win of the weekend before Phil Mercer then reeled off a hat-trick. Right throughout round four, battle raged with Mercer and Dobson regularly joined in the mix by the likes of James Lane, Simon Lane, Matt Ryder, Aaron Crowder, Sam Callow, Lee Martin, Matthew Chaplin and Dain Traylor. Typifying the super action was the final moto in which, although the track was at its roughest and tiredness was setting in, the Vets went right at it! Mercer led all the way with Dobson right on his tail. Starting 4th, James Lane then came through to not only pass Dobson on the final lap but also close rapidly on Mercer. Meanwhile Ryder locked horns with Callow for 5th as Simon Lane just held off Crowder for 7th, what a contest! Overall winners of the three different Vets classes at Lower Drayton were Jamie Dobson (Over 40’s), Phil Mercer (Over 50’s) and Brian Staples (Over 60’s).

Hannah Jones leading Brian Staples in a Vets and Women’s class

In all four Women’s motos they got stuck in and really mixed it up with Vets as the surname of Jones figured prominently in proceedings! Having her first appearance of the season in the AMCA Championship, Nadiya Jones was battling it out with current series leader Hannah Jones. Nadiya was the first lady home in the opening three contests before Caitlin Newman beat Hannah, Amber McGregor and Nadiya to prove victorious in the last moto. On the podium, it was Nadiya taking the top step from Hannah and Caitlin. In the Championship standings, Hannah on the CPMX Racing KTM has a 35-point advantage over Amber with Caitlin 3rd and Jaymee Garrood 4th.

Clubmans Juniors winner Lewis Perks

As per normal, the combined Clubman Seniors and Juniors class was stacked and producing some great racing. Charlie Ludwell won the opener ahead of Seniors series leader George Clarke, Charlie Hems, Louis Tilley, Jack Waterman and Max Monk. After fast starting, Hems led moto two, quickly Clarke then took control for the win with Waterman a very strong 3rd as Max Monk, Ludwell, Mackenzie Tranter, Tilley and Jack Hollis put more big Championship points into their accounts.

Charlie Ludwell, 3rd in the Clubman Seniors

Clarke then quickly passed Ross Dean for moto three success as Hollis recorded his best placing of the campaign so far in 2nd. Again, leading the charge to turn one and beyond, Hems a Wildcard rider finally transferred those holeshots into moto victory and he led the last Clubmans contest all the way which was also enough to earn 2nd overall on the Seniors podium as Clarke took another top spot and Ludwell bagged 3rd. Over on the Clubman Juniors podium it was Lewis Perks taking the top step from Lewis Day and series leader Charlie Osborne. Struggling with a shoulder injury at present, Osborne will be more than happy with that 3rd overall, although Perks has now moved up to 2nd in the standings and is just 20 points in arrears!

Youth class flying action from Cameron Berry(220) and Mason Brown

Completing the Lower Drayton action was the combined BW85cc/SW85cc and 65cc Youth class. Further stretching his BW85cc series lead, Mason Brown was in superb form again, scoring four big wins as his regular rival Will Kremer chased him home. After Cameron Berry had taken 3rd in moto one of the Youth class, it was over to Blake Marks-Bracey. The youngster from Bristol, who has recently been selected to represent Great Britain in the Junior World Championship in the Czech Republic, celebrated by also scoring the overall win in the SW85cc class at Lower Drayton ahead of series leader Aaron Mercer and Oliver Moore. Over in the 65cc competition, Harvey Wood bagged the glory to thus further increase his Championship advantage to a massive 128 points.

SW85cc winner Blake Marks-Bracey

So that’s round four done, and it’s a massive congratulations to the organising Cannock MXC. Endless hours of work and near-perfect weather conditions in the week leading up to the event resulted in top track conditions. The series now moves onto Hawkstone Park on Sunday, July 5th for what promises to be an intriguing round five!
