The wait is over. The 2026 FIM World Supercross Championship gets underway this weekend as Calgary’s McMahon Stadium hosts the opening round of a new global campaign, and for British fans all eyes will be on defending SX2 World Champion Max Anstie.
After dominating the SX2 class in 2025, Anstie returns with the number one plate and a new challenge after joining Rick Ware Racing for the 2026 season. The Brit will be aiming to start his title defence in the best possible way, but he’ll face arguably the strongest SX2 field World Supercross has assembled.

Among those looking to deny Anstie back-to-back championships are New Zealand’s Brodie Connolly, American Cameron McAdoo, Robbie Wageman, Henry Miller and Devin Simonson, alongside French supercross specialist Calvin Fonvieille and Germany’s Brian Hsu.
With only a handful of rounds making up the championship, a strong start in Calgary could prove crucial in the title race.
Wilson Returns for Opening Round
While Anstie leads the British challenge, Dean Wilson also returns to the World Supercross paddock after receiving a late call-up to ride for Konsky Motorsport.
Wilson replaces the injured Joey Savatgy for the opening round and heads to a venue that means more to him than most. Although proudly Scottish, Wilson spent much of his childhood in Calgary, making Saturday’s race something of a homecoming in front of family, friends and the fans who watched his early career develop.
The experienced SX1 rider may not have had the preparation time of some of his rivals, but few riders understand the demands of supercross better, making him one to watch if he can settle into the new bike quickly.

Anderson Headlines SX1
Away from the British interest, the SX1 class is stacked with proven race winners and former champions.
Defending champion Jason Anderson returns looking to retain his crown, but he’ll face stiff opposition from Cooper Webb, Christian Craig, Justin Hill, Colt Nichols, Vince Friese and Jorge Zaragoza, while Luke Clout, Gregory Aranda and Kevin Moranz add further depth to an impressive premier-class field.
A Truly Global Championship
The 2026 championship features riders from nine different nations across the SX1 and SX2 classes, underlining World Supercross’ ambition to bring the sport to a global audience.
Calgary hosts the opening round before the series heads to Birmingham in October, with the championship eventually concluding in New Zealand later in the year.
McMahon Stadium has been transformed into a purpose-built supercross circuit featuring rhythm lanes, technical whoops, big jumps and multiple line choices, promising plenty of overtaking opportunities when the gates finally drop.

Fans can watch every round of the 2026 FIM World Supercross Championship live and on demand through W+, the championship’s new streaming platform.

The opening round takes place this Saturday, 8 August, from Calgary, Canada, before the championship heads to Birmingham for the British GP on 10 October.
