Five-time and Reigning British MX1 Motocross Champion Conrad Mewse believes Taylor Hammal’s breakthrough podium in the 2026 Motul ACU British Motocross Championship is only a matter of time after praising the DRT Kawasaki rider’s impressive performances this season.
Despite balancing racing with a full-time job during the week, Hammal has consistently challenged and beaten the championship’s leading riders, including Mewse himself, as well as Ben Watson, Oriol Oliver, Josh Gilbert and Adam Sterry, who all race professionally and compete in the MXGP World Championship. However, a podium finish has just eluded him, with three fourth-place finishes to his name, two of them coming after being tied on points with the rider in third. At Landrake, Hammal was just a lap away from securing a podium before a late crash allowed Oliver to snatch the position.

Speaking to Josh Allen after the latest round of the championship at Monster Mountain, Mewse admitted he has huge respect for the effort Hammal is putting in and the speed he has been showing.
“Taylor is riding great this season, so I was happy for him to get third in that first race at Hawkstone.
“I take my hat off to Taylor. He’s not doing the same as what us front boys are doing. He’s working during the week and then coming here at the weekend and running the same pace as us.
“Honestly, I take my hat off to the kid. He’s riding unbelievable, and I think it’s honestly only a matter of time until he does get on the podium. Although he’s had a lot of fourths he is still right there, and it doesn’t take much to get on the box, and I believe before the end of the season he will have the results he wants.”
Hammal currently sits fourth in the MXGB MX1 standings, 24 points behind Oliver in third. With three out of the eight rounds left to go, it’s Canada Heights next on the agenda for the Kawasaki racer from Hampshire, who will be gunning to get his first podium before the season is out.
