Carter claims Nibley victory! 2022 UK EVO MX Championship Round 1 – Race Report & Results

Back on Sunday 27th March, the opening round of the 2022 Uk Evo Mx series got underway at North Nibley in Gloucestershire which had attracted a bumper entry in all classes and with the track being watered the previous day it was in good stead to produce some good racing, but before the day got underway a minute’s silence was held for one of the UK Evo MX team Clive Gowen who sadly passed away on March 18th.

The Evo 125 class had a few of the top runners from the previous year missing but nevertheless, some good racing was to commence. Jordan Carter who in his hay days would ride a bigger bike but he had decided to have a go on a Cr125, and it proved a good day for Jordan as he took a clean sweep of wins and the overall with Ryan Butler having three high scoring races taking second overall just ahead of Tom Moore who also was pretty consistent in all three races, but not such a good day for John May who finished second to Carter in the opening race but was to seize his bike on the opening lap in race 2 and had to use his spare bike in the last race and finished third behind Daryl Bolter which left him way down in tenth overall.

In the Evo 250 class, there was also drama as it was the YZ Yamaha of Ben Milward who led the opening race for the first lap and was being pressured all the time by the Cr Honda of Jamie Skuse who took over the lead on the second lap and was soon in control until two laps later when he came to a halt as his bike had seized. Milward regained the lead and was a clear winner ahead of fellow YZ rider James Kensington and Jordan Carrier.

Jason Morettes took the overall in the modern 2-stroke over 50’s class

In the second moto again, it was Milward with the best start but a big off on lap 2 dropped Ben down the field and it was Skuse on his spare bike who took over the lead and from there went on untroubled to take the win with Milward taking an excellent second after coming back up through the field and passing Kensington and Carrier on the last lap. The third moto saw Skuse lead from the off and was to set a blistering pace at the front for the first three laps before he again came to a halt, but luckily this time it was a problem with the cut-off switch and he was soon to get going again back in 4th which was where he finished the race, Milward took the win from Carrier and Kensington which gave Milward the overall.

The Evo 500 class was very competitive and was to produce three different winners. The opening race saw Jamie Dixon just hold off Paul Edge for the win with Aaron Poolman taking the chequered flag in the second moto and Edge winning the last race but the overall went to the KX500 of George Gough with a 4-2-2 scorecard.

George Gough took the Evo 500 class overall with three consistent rides

In the Vets Over 45 class there was a clear hattrick of wins for Phil Lewis but joining in for a bit of fun who had not raced since 2012 was Jeff Perrett and he was to show that he has still got it and was to give his all, especially in the opening race where he clocked the fastest lap time in the race as he battled with Danny Blakeley for several laps eventually getting passed and was to take second behind Lewis. Jeff was in good stead in the second moto again clocking up the fastest lap time and was lying in second before bike issues forced him out. The last race was a battle royal between Blakeley and Lewis with Lewis leaving it until the last lap to get the better of Blakeley for the win with Dean Warren taking third ahead of Perrett who was on a Twinshock taking 4th.

Dirt Hub’s Jeff Perrett made his first race appearance in 12 years on the BNH Triumph

In the Super Evo Under 40’s class, there was a hattrick of wins for Chris McGill on his CR250 Honda whereas in the Super Evo Over 40’s class it was Laurence Wiltshire with the opening race win, and he looked set to win the second race before a problem with his bike gave him a DNF and it was exactly the same for Wiltshire in the last race when leading when the bike problem occurred again and he had another DNF and it was Nathan Davies who finished second to Wiltshire in the opening race who was to take the overall after winning the second and third races and in the Super Evo Over 50’s class, there was a clean sweep of wins for Jason Morris.

Chris McGill was on fire in the Super Evo under 40’s where he took a hattrick of wins

In the Vets Over 60’s class, there was a fine performance from Martin Coleman on his 510 Husqvarna who showed the rest of the field a clean set of heels winning all three races, but there was a good tussle to determine who was going to take second overall between Martin Stokes and Kevin Spiller with Stokes getting the better result in the last race finishing 2nd to Coleman and with Spiller only managing 4th it was Stokes who took second overall by 2 points.

Martin Coleman showed his class in the Vets over 60’s class

The Twinshock Under 50’s class was to produce some of the best racing of the day and with it provided three different winners with Carl Benham winning the opening race, Phillip Peaster triumphant in race 2 and Matt Nash taking the chequered flag in the last race, but consistency was the name of the game which gave Peaster the overall, James Reeves took second overall with Scott Reed third overall, whereas in the Twinshock Over 50’s class there was no stopping the Fasthouse/Butler racing 490 Maico of Terry House once he got into his Rhythm as he was to win all three races by some margin, Richard Benham took second overall with Mark Roberts and Kevin Reed tied on points at the end of the day, but by virtue of the better result in the last race it was Roberts who took third overall.

Terry House was on fire in the Twinshock over 50’s class and took a convincing hattrick of wins

The Under 50’s Modern 2-Stroke class saw Adam Cook totally dominate the races with some fast riding taking a hattrick of wins, but it was second overall which was where the battle was between Ryhs Walker and Thomas Herbert as they were tied on points going into the last race and it was a close thing mid-race but at the line, it was Walker who took 2nd with Herbert putting in a late charge finishing in third so Walker took second overall from Herbert. In the Over 50’s class it was Mike Allport who won the opening race from Rich Vincent with Jason Morettes finishing in third, but Morettes was in fine form in the other two races winning both which was to give him the overall with Vincent second overall by one point after beating Allport’s in the last race.

Nathan Davies took the overall in the Super Evo over 40’s class

The next round takes place at Ford on the 24th of April. For more info go to https://www.ukevomx.com/
