With ideal conditions greeting riders and fans at the UFO Plast High Point National, Hunter Lawrence delivered a flawless performance to sweep both motos in the premier class and close the gap in the championship standings, while New Zealand sensation Cole Davies claimed a breakthrough first professional outdoor overall victory with a dominant 1-1 performance.

Hunter Lawrence Sweeps High Point

The 450SMX class belonged to Hunter Lawrence from start to finish.

After qualifying second fastest behind brother and championship leader Jett Lawrence, Hunter wasted no time asserting himself in the opening moto. He grabbed the holeshot before briefly losing the lead to Cooper Webb, only to reclaim the position almost immediately and pull away from the field.

Behind him, Jett Lawrence charged from outside the top ten on the opening lap and eventually worked his way into second place ahead of Jorge Prado. However, the reigning champion could do nothing about his older brother, who stormed to victory by over eleven seconds.

Moto two saw the Lawrence brothers emerge from the first turn at the front of the pack, with Hunter once again edging ahead of Jett and quickly establishing control of the race. While Haiden Deegan mounted a late charge and closed in on the leaders, Hunter remained composed and completed a perfect 1-1 sweep.

Jett finished second in both motos for the runner-up spot overall, while rookie Haiden Deegan secured his second podium finish of the season in third.

The victory marks Hunter Lawrence’s second overall win of the season and third of his Pro Motocross career. More importantly, he has reduced Jett’s championship lead to just two points heading into the summer break.

Hunter Lawrence

“It was really good today, really good. I’ve been searching a bit with the motorcycle and missing a little bit on the racetrack. I’m happy to get this one.”

Jett Lawrence

“Hunter was riding really well. I tried to track on and follow his lines and then try other lines, but I just couldn’t keep up. Good on him, he rode really well. We’ll go back to work on the bike and come back strong at the next one.”

Haiden Deegan

“I feel good. I’m getting closer. It feels like a win on my part making these steps each weekend. I’m right there. I’m going to keep putting in the work, keep chipping away. I put my heart out there and never gave up.”

Davies Delivers Breakthrough Victory

The 250SMX class saw one of the stories of the season as Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Cole Davies claimed the first outdoor overall victory of his career.

The New Zealander set the pace from the outset, topping both qualifying sessions before converting that speed into race-winning performances.

In the opening moto, Davies worked his way through the pack after an average start before inheriting the lead when Julien Beaumer crashed while leading. Davies then resisted late pressure from Beaumer to secure the win.

The second moto was even more impressive.

Davies grabbed the holeshot and never looked back, leading every lap and controlling the race throughout. Behind him, championship contender Seth Hammaker suffered a heavy crash and failed to finish, while Jo Shimoda fought his way through the field to salvage valuable championship points.

Davies completed the clean sweep and became the first New Zealander to win a Pro Motocross overall since Ben Townley in 2007.

Cole Davies

“This feels awesome. I feel like I sorted my starts out today and I nailed that second start and was gone. I felt great all day. My first perfect day in motocross. It’s good.”

Julien Beaumer

“This is special. We’re getting there. I feel like I’m in a position to start fighting for wins. We’re in this thing championship-wise, so I’m going to put in some work during the off week and come out swinging at RedBud.”

Jo Shimoda

“I think I underperformed today. I just didn’t have the pace. Those guys up front were ripping. I couldn’t close in and do anything about it. We need to put in some more work during the week. We’ll come back strong.”

Levi Kitchen

“That was a struggle today for me. I felt very uncomfortable all day. I don’t know, I just couldn’t find a flow. I’m glad we still have the red plate and I’m really looking forward to the string of tracks we have coming up.”

Championship Picture Tightens

The High Point National has set up intriguing championship battles in both classes heading into the short summer break.

In the 450SMX standings, Hunter Lawrence’s perfect day has reduced Jett Lawrence’s lead to just two points, while Haiden Deegan remains firmly in contention in third.

The 250SMX championship is even tighter. Levi Kitchen leaves High Point with the red plate but holds only a one-point advantage over Shimoda, while Beaumer sits just two points further back. Davies’ breakthrough victory has elevated him to fourth in the standings, only seven points from the lead.

The 2026 Pro Motocross Championship now pauses before returning on July 4th for the iconic RedBud National in Michigan.
