Maxime Renaux completed the podium for Yamaha, whilst Tim Gajser salvaged a difficult weekend with victory in race two after suffering bike damage in the opening moto.

Herlings got the perfect start in race one and led from the front despite constant pressure from Renaux and a charging Coenen. The Dutchman held firm to take the win, with less than three seconds covering the leading trio at the finish.

Race two saw Andrea Adamo claim the holeshot in front of his home fans, but Gajser quickly moved into the lead and held off intense pressure from Herlings and Coenen to take victory.

Herlings’ second-place finish was enough to secure the overall win, whilst Coenen’s consistency earned another podium and valuable championship points.

The result sees Coenen remain in control of the championship, although Herlings has cut the deficit to 56 points as the series approaches its halfway stage. Romain Febvre remains third in the standings, whilst Kay de Wolf slipped to seventh after missing the Italian round through injury.

Jeffrey Herlings

“I had the speed to win all weekend long. Today I took a gamble with my gate choice and it paid off, especially in the first race where I got the holeshot and could lead. That’s another GP win, my fourth of the season.”

Lucas Coenen

“I’m happy to be standing here on the podium. In race one I had a bad jump and was almost last into the first corner, but I made some good passes and worked my way back to the front.”

Maxime Renaux

“Latvia was a disappointment, so it feels good to be back on the podium. Finishing here is a good step forward for the season and the championship.”

Sacha Coenen Wins Again In MX2

In MX2, Sacha Coenen strengthened his grip on the championship with overall victory despite not winning either moto.

The Red Bull KTM rider finished second in both races to secure the overall ahead of Triumph duo Guillem Farres and Camden McLellan.

Farres took victory in race one before McLellan dominated race two, but Coenen’s consistency proved enough to secure his seventh GP win.

The result extends Coenen’s championship lead to 35 points over Farres, with McLellan moving into third in the standings.

The MXGP World Championship heads to Portugal next weekend for the MXGP of Portugal at Agueda.

Sacha Coenen

“It was a difficult weekend, but I managed to finish second and second and take the overall win, so I’m pretty happy with that.”

Guillem Farres (speaking to MXGP)

“I felt like I had good pace this weekend. It’s frustrating to lose my chances like that in the first lap of race two, but we’re in the fight every weekend.”

Camden McLellan (speaking to MXGP)

“I was pretty annoyed after the first race. Speed-wise I felt really strong all weekend and I backed it up with a race win in the second moto.”
