British racer Brian Gyles will make his FIM MX2 Motocross World Championship debut this weekend at the MXGP of China, held at the Shanghai International Off-Road Circuit.

The Thailand-born racer has shown plenty of speed during 2026, taking second overall in the 125cc class at the British Motocross Championship round at Lyng before going on to claim victory at Canada Heights.
Gyles also represented Team GB at the Junior World Motocross Championship in Loket, Czech Republic, where he was the best-placed British rider in the 125cc class, finishing 25th.
Much of Brian’s racing has taken place in Europe this season in the EMX125 Championship, where he finished the campaign 25th overall. He signed off his European season with a season-best ninth overall at the final round in Turkiye last weekend.
Now comes a completely different challenge, with Gyles stepping up from the 125 to race MX2 in Shanghai after receiving an opportunity through a Chinese dealer.
Brian said of his wildcard appearance in China: “We got the offer from a Chinese dealer to ride in MX2 at Shanghai. It’s on a standard bike, but we thought it would be a good experience, so we’re going for it!
“I’m back on a 125 next year, this MX2 ride is a total one-off, just there for an experience. The goal is not to get lapped!”
It’s a great opportunity for the young Brit to experience racing in the MX2 class, with no pressure beyond learning as much as possible from his World Championship debut.
