Askew & Carpenter shine in Lyng as GRT Impact KTM 125 racers compete in Spain!

This weekend the team split up into two, in order to compete in the British MX Nationals series, and the European Motocross Championship (EMX). The MX Nationals headed back to Lyng, where we have been previously this year already. The EMX series headed to Spain in tremendously hot city of Madrid.

We kick off with the MX Nationals and our 85cc rider Billy Askew, who is the MX Nationals series leader. Billy has been incredible this year, and this weekend was no different. He continued his recent form, winning all four of his races this weekend with a comfortable lead in each race, as well as the fastest laps in all races. He keeps the red plate and extends his Championship lead once again.

Our Pro MX2 rider, Jamie Carpenter, was also racing the MX Nationals series this weekend. Jamie had a strong showing in qualifying, going fastest in the MX2 class. He went into the races feeling strong, and he backed the fast-lap up with a race win in Moto 1. A flawless weekend cut short in an unfortunate first turn crash put Jamie all the way at the back of the pack in Moto 2. He managed to race from the back all the way up to 5th place, which was good enough to gain 2nd overall from the weekend. An unfortunate way to end it, but Jamie tied on points for 1st place, keeping the gap to the Championship lead at 17 points, with Jamie sitting in 2nd.

Our EMX125 riders out in Spain had a great weekend of experience and some overwhelmingly positive racing going into the next two rounds over the next few weeks.

Joe Brookes managed to get out with the lead pack early on in Moto 1, trailing some of the World’s fastest teenagers. He settled in to their pace well, but the Spanish heat proved a hard battle in itself. Joe brought it home to finish a hugely respectable 13th place in Moto 1. Some back luck with a start crash in Moto 2 cost him a chance to be at the front again, however we are excited to see what he can do in the next few rounds.

A similar story for Ollie Colmer in Moto 1 as he found himself outside the top 30 off the start. He made some good passes and had great battles with the riders around him. This class is hugely competitive the whole way through, and Ollie would come home in 26th at the line. In Moto 2, Colmer would get himself a much better start this time, finding himself just outside the top 10. He showed incredible speed and determination to pass up to 8th place, before taking an unfortunate fall that put him back. He would cross the line in 15th still, and a massive confidence boost going into next weekend.

Our new rider, Erez Melmen, also headed with the 125s to race the EMX Championship. However, ultimately fell just short of qualifying for the races, showing that the EMX125 class is a difficult feat. He is progressing week-in week-out, so we hope to get those lap times down in the coming weeks.

Onto more European racing this weekend where our three EMX125 are also joined by EMX250 rider, Jamie Carpenter, who will be racing his first European race of the year, will be in Ernée, France.
