British racer Alfie Jones will compete in the 2025 ProMX Championship in Australia after announcing that he has signed for the Penrite Racing—GO24 Kawasaki Australia team.
Alfie finished seventh position in the 2024 British Motocross Championship for the Chambers Racing team but is now on a new adventure on the other side of the world, so we caught up with him to find out how it all came about…
Dirt Hub: Hey Alfie, we hear you have a ride in Australia for their 2025 Championship. How did that come about?
Alfie: When I raced here for the Junior Worlds back in 2017, we made many good contacts and friends. We always kept in touch over the years, and with not many rides going in British motocross, I couldn’t turn down the opportunity to come over and ride for GO24 Penrite Kawasaki.
DH: How long have you been in Australia, and how are you finding it?
Alfie: I have been over here for around six weeks now, and to be honest, so far, I’m loving it. I just caught the back end of summer, so it’s been extremely hot, but the tracks are great, the people are really nice over here, and it’s just a better way of life!
DH: What are your thoughts on the MX Scene in Australia?
Alfie: It’s very good. The quality of riders over here is very high, and the tracks are typically really good.
DH: What does the Aussie MX industry make of a Brit racing in the Championship?
Alfie: I think they like it when riders come from overseas to race, it can only be good for the sport and may encourage more riders to come and race, which will only make the series even stronger!
DH: Are you riding in MX1 or MX2?
Alfie: I will be racing the mx2 class on a kx250
DH: What targets and expectations do you have? The series looks like it has some good riders.
Alfie: It’s very hard to have any expectations due to not being familiar with the riders, and all the tracks are brand new to me. My goal would be to try to break into the top 10, but as soon as the first race is underway, I can set some goals to accomplish throughout the season. But one thing I know for sure is that these guys are fast!
DH: Is this a long-term thing, or will we see you back in the UK this year?
Alfie: We will have to see how things go this season, but it all depends on the level of support available.
DH: This weekend is round one at Wonthaggi. Do you know much about the track?
Alfie: I have been told Wonthaggi is one of the toughest tracks on the calendar this year, so I’ll be jumping straight into the deep end. I have been lucky enough to have a couple of outings on the track and test some suspensions with the team in the short time we have had to get prepared for round one. The track has a good flow to it and gets very rough, so hopefully, we can put together a few solid motos and build from there!
