The 2026 Motul ACU British Motocross Championship title fights continue this Sunday, 3rd May, with a visit to the excellent Cadders Hill venue in Lyng, Norfolk where fans are in for a real treat with the MX1 title fight being super tight, MX2 being as unpredictable as ever, and the 125cc class serving up some awesome action.

Over the years the natural sand based hillside circuit of Lyng has seen some epic British Championship battles, and MX1 this year could be another with joint red plate holders, Ben Watson on his Dirt Store Triumph, Spanish ace Oriol Oliver on his Gabriel SS24 KTM and current champ Conrad Mewse of the Crendon Tru7 Honda team being seperated by just three points, with all three of these having won races here. Who will come out on top is anyone’s guess.

A few injuries have hit hard in MX1 with Chambers Racing’s Adam Sterry, Apico Honda’s Josh Gilbert and Privateer Brad Todd all out of the running, but this paves the way for new heroes to emerge. One rider who has certainly elevated his stock this season is DRT Kawasaki’s Taylor Hammal, and if he can make some good starts, a podium finish must surely be in his sights. Lexa MX’s Tristan Purdon will also have eyes on the podium prize, too, as will Crendon Tru7 Honda’s Jamie Carpenter, who is starting to come into a good run of form. Talking about a good run of form, Apico Honda’s Tom Grimshaw travels to Norfolk with perfect victories in two Eastern Centre rounds and the Toddington farewell meeting, so if this form can translate into MXGB speed, he could be in for a good result.
Absolute KTM’s Ben Edwards, Motorcycle Racing’s Jason Meara, Bobby Bruce, Phoenix Tools Fantic Racing’s Carlton Husband, and Eastern Centre hero Bayliss Utting will all be looking to take advantage of their rivals’ injuries to move up the rankings, too. Watch out also for South African top racer Cameron Durow, who will be racing this Sunday too, and could be a rider who could be at the sharp end.
MX2 is so up and down this year, and it is impossible to predict which makes it super exciting and coming into Round 3 where the SC Sporthomes Husqvarna rider Charlie Heyman holds the red plate and a six point lead over Gabriel SS24 KTM’s Gyan Doensen in second. Behind these, though, there is a freight train of riders who want a piece of the red plate and podium pie led by reigning champ, the Dirt Store Triumph star Tommy Searle, who won last time out at Preston Docks. Then the next five riders are separated by just three points, all of which are capable of big results at Lyng and who will have their eyes on Heyman, who has 25 points plus on this gaggle of racers, which includes Jamie Keith, Joe Brookes, ASA United GasGas’s Ben Mustoe, and Phoenix Tools Fantic Racing’s Josh Vail and John Adamson.

The field is deep, though, with Chambers Racing’s Ollie Colmer and Dirt Store Triumph’s Billy Askew suffering early round misfortunes, which sees them down in 12th and 13th position, with Tyla Hooley, who is starting to shine in 14th. Sandwiched between these lot are Crendon Tru7 Honda’s Charlie Richmond, SevenSeven2 Ride Kawasaki’s Joel Rizzi and Chambers Racing’s Glen McCormick, all of whom are capable of big results on their day.
Sadly, last year’s Lyng hero Calum Mitchell is out injured after a big crash at Hawkstone Park in the British Masters, so we wish him a speedy recovery.
Other riders who need to be thrown into the mix are Spanish ace David Braceras, who has a GP pedigree, and the other South African Durow brother, Tristan.
One thing about MX2 is that all we can predict is that it will be unpredictable.

In the 125cc class, after a few weeks off, Red Plate Holder Drew Stock will be refreshed and keen to continue where he left off, having won all four motos so far this year. Expected to be hot on his heels, though, will be the impressive 13-year-old Harley Marczak, who would love nothing more than to take his first race win in Norfolk, Joel Winstanley Dawson, Olly Waters and Chambers Racing’s Hayden Statt, who has shown some good speed while plying his trade in EMX125 in the last few Italian rounds.
Plenty of other riders could also throw themselves in the mix this weekend, and Eastern centre favourite Alfie Geddes Green could be one of those, while Brian Gyles, fresh from his best ever EMX125 result at the weekend, will be making his 125cc debut in the series.
Lyng is certainly going to be the place to be this weekend, so get there in person if you can, or if not, tune into the live stream on MXGB.TV’s YouTube channel.
