GRT Impact KTM enjoy successful Whitby Weekend!

Team GRT Impact KTM headed to Whitby, North Yorkshire for Round 7 of the Revo ACU British Championship last weekend. The riders were treated to some dry racing on Saturday, however rain fell overnight going into Sunday, making difficult track conditions and visibility a major role in the shape-up of the racing.

Our 65cc riders were back in action again, with Teddy Merriman and Elliot Shawyer taking to the track. Teddy had a difficult weekend to begin with, struggling out of the gate, and then finding it difficult to make passes around the circuit. He got out of the blocks much better in Moto 4 to round out his weekend, however, taking 11th place to secure 18th overall.

Elliot had a good weekend of great starts and good battles inside the top 20 all weekend. He showed good pace against some older riders, and we can see his race craft starting to form. He takes home 19th overall this weekend.

In the Big Wheel 85cc class, championship leader Billy Askew once again stole the show all weekend with another four straight wins for 1st overall. Billy is going from strength to strength each weekend, and now sits 60 points ahead in the championship title race. He also had a surprise this weekend as he becomes the first amateur ‘Kecks’ athlete, alongside Tommy Searle and Billy Bolt. An amazing achievement and his hard work is not going unnoticed. Well done Billy!

Ollie Colmer and Erez Melman fielded the 125cc class this weekend. Ollie looked to be having a good weekend, before an unfortunate DNF in Moto 4 caused him to drop points. Nevertheless, Colmer still gained enough points for 6th overall, despite finishing only three out of four races.

Melman had another solid, building weekend. He fought hard for position, even with the tricky conditions, and had some great starts to go with it. He collects 10th overall this weekend, and is happy with his progress made so far this year.

In the 250cc youth class, we had the return of Finlay Evans, after absence since the MX Nationals series went to Landrake. Finlay had a good weekend, despite it being his first race back after three months away. He is still training hard to get back to his ‘race pace’, and still managed to come away with a respectable 4th overall. There is more to come from Finlay as we head to the latter stages of the season.

Finally, Jamie Carpenter met Sunday’s conditions in the Pro MX2 class, head on. After a 3rd place in qualifying, Jamie went into the races in full confidence, despite treacherous conditions early on. A brilliant start in race 1 sat Jamie in 3rd place from the start, and after capitalising on a mistake by Dylan Walsh, Carpenter moved into 2nd position. He would stay there for the rest of the race, holding off the challenges from Walsh, and giving him a boost going into the next race.

In race 2, after a decent start, Jamie unfortunately got caught up in a crash going into turn 2. With nowhere to go, Carpenter was forced to start from the back of the pack and make his way through. Despite the track being difficult to pass on, Jamie made his way back up to 7th position at the checkered flag, which was good enough for 3rd overall on the day. A great achievement despite the adversity of Moto 2.

GRT will be back in action once again this weekend at the infamous Hawkstone Park in Shropshire, for Round 5 of the Michelin MX Nationals.
