This round also hosted the second round of the PP Sports WMX ACU British Motocross Championship. This famous Grand Prix length circuit is either loved or hated by the riders. The weather this weekend was almost perfect, bright blue skies on Saturday followed by light showers throughout Sunday which made for prime track conditions.

The weekend started with the PP Sports WMX Adults class, who last competed at Lyng.

Chelsea Gowland won the first race by just over one second, closely followed by Elaine MacEachern. Lyng champion, Kathryn Booth came in third just 12 seconds behind MacEachern. Booth took full advantage however during the last race of the day when MacEachern tipped over at the top of one of the many treacherous downhill sections to take a well-deserved win. Unfortunately for Lauren Collingwood, she had a tough fall during the very start of the first race on Saturday. Thankfully it looked like Collingwood came away relatively unscathed, but it was a different story for her bike. Luckily, she returned on Sunday and took the track by storm coming in 5th place in the third race of the weekend and 6th in the last race. MacEachern was most consistent over the weekend winning half the races and taking the top step on the podium, followed by Kathryn Booth in 2nd and Grace Richards in 3rd.

Following the WMX Adults, the intense 85BW and the 85BW WMX took to the track. Finley Evans took the first moto win followed by the 441 SJP Moto UK machine of Billy Askew with Foxhills winner, Wal Beaney in 3rd. Beaney would only improve from there on out with first in race two and second in the last two races adding up to a whopping 169 points over the weekend. Finely Evans and Tyla Hooley who came second and third overall both managed to win a race, the underdog Charlie Richmond who, unfortunately, didn’t end up on the podium also grabbed a race win in the third race, coming in fifth overall.

Whilst the WMX 85BW ran in with the boys, they certainly held their own with the much talked about Lucy Barker coming first overall in the WMX category and 14th in the 85BW claiming a massive 107-point haul over the weekends racing! Hot on her heels was Hollie Roberts, who is turning into such a strong rider for such a young age, Hollie is certainly one to watch out for! Coming in third was Miley Hodgson picking up 74 points in the 85BW category. She is a fast rider who is only improving round by round.

The previous classes had prepped the track ready for the boys and girls in the SW85 class. Although short in numbers, they made up for it in determination with Libby Chatburn and Jessie Lee-Jessop putting the boys in their place over the weekend with Libby picking up 81 points and 19th position in the overall SW85 class. Jessie, was consistent throughout the races picking up 16 points in the first three races and 19 in the last.

Reece Jones completed an almost perfect weekend by going 1-1-4-1. A momentary lapse led to a small crash, where he had to dig deep to produce one of the rides of the weekend to come back to 4th in Race 3. He still holds the red plate. Cole Mccullough came through in second overall stealing a well-deserved win from Reece in the Third race. Once again, we saw Freddie Gardiner on the podium in third place, although not taking home a race win, he had a well-deserved podium finish.

Underdog, Alfie Geddes Green stole the show this weekend by winning three out of four races, thus claiming the top spot on the podium, 18 points ahead of Robbie Daly in second. Despite this, Robbie still remains the red plate holder heading into the next round. Hot on the heels of Robbie was Olly Walters only one point behind. He was persistent and happily took third place on the podium and remains second in the overall standings.

This was the first round for the Auto class so it was all eyes on the riders to see how their 2021 season got underway, newcomer Cohen Jagielski came through with 170 points winning three races and taking home the red plate. Freddie Box stole a win away from Cohen in the second race and grabbed second at the podium. Tommy Wood, remained dependable during the races meaning he comes home with a third place trophy and a great mindset going into the next round.
