Auto-Cycle Union to establish electric motorcycle panel

The Auto-Cycle Union (ACU) is setting up a dedicated electric motorcycle panel, marking a significant step in the organisation’s commitment to exploring the future development of ACU-permitted electric-powered motorcycle sport in the UK.

While a small number of electric motorcycles are used in ACU sporting events across multiple disciplines, there is scope for much greater participation.
The ACU Board has agreed to set up the new panel which will give the organisers, promoters, riders and stakeholders that are already involved in electric motorcycle competition a clear voice at ACU House.

The move reflects the ACU’s belief that embracing electric machinery has the potential to create new opportunities, engage new audiences, and support the continued development of motorcycle sport as a whole.

Matthew Edwards-Wear, ACU Chief Executive, said: “Electric motorcycles are becoming increasingly popular in motorcycle sport, and as the national governing body in the UK, we want to ensure riders, organisers and promoters involved in this area have a platform within the ACU and a structure that supports their ambitions. The creation of the electric motorcycle panel is an important first step.

“One of the most exciting aspects of electric competition is its potential to take motorcycle sport to places that have traditionally been difficult for us to access. Lower sound levels create opportunities to engage with communities, organisers and venues that may not previously have considered hosting motorcycle sport events.”

Details of the ACU electric motorcycle panel’s membership and future plans will be communicated in due course.
