Gardiner & Statt on the podium at EMX round in Germany – Report & Results
It was a thrilling weekend for the EMX65 / EMX85 European Motocross Championship. After the first event in Denmark and the second in the Netherlands, the city of Reutlingen, Germany, hosted the third and last round of the Central Europe Zone. On Sunday, more than 60 riders were at the start for the final round of this zone, after a rainy Saturday.
EMX85
Absent in the Netherlands, Victor Leppala (KTM) was back in action and powered to an amazing double win. In Race 1 the Belgian rider ruled from the start to the end, while British leader Hayden Statt (KTM) had to settle for third, with Second position going to Danish rider Bertram Thorius (Yamaha).
Race 2 saw an intense battle for the win. In the middle of the race Leppala took the lead and didn’t look back on his way to the victory ahead of home rider Neo Nindelt (GasGas) and Statt.
Other British riders in the mix were Blake Ward-Clarke in 6th, Lucas Moncrieff in 10th, Casey Lister in 11th, and Lucas Lee in 22nd
EMX65
Home rider Luca Nierychlo (Husqvarna) ruled both races, scoring 50 perfect points. In Race 1 the muddy conditions made the fight for the second position very hard: at the end British rider Jett Gardiner (KTM) was second ahead of the Dutch Kas Van Hamond (GasGas).
In Race 2 Nierychlo set another win. Behind him, undisturbed Gardiner finished second again, securing second in the overall too. There was a fierce battle for the third position between Haakon Ronning (Husqvarna), Dominik Hason (KTM) and Van Hamond.
Austin Edwards was the only other British rider in this class but didn’t feature in the points.
