Clean Sweep at MX Nationals opener for Carpenter and GRT Impact KTM!

This week, team GRT Impact KTM headed North to FatCat Motoparc in Doncaster, for the first round of the Michelin MX Nationals series of 2022. After coming off a positive weekend at the Revo ACU British Championship, the boys were looking to continue their form, and deliver some good results once again.

The weather held well all weekend, providing a dry track and some great racing in the sandy conditions. Another week of hard work though, as the track got rough quickly on both days of the weekend.

The biggest news came from our Pro MX2 rider, Jamie Carpenter, who swept the weekend with a 1-1 for 1st Overall, whilst making his GRT debut at the MX Nationals.

The weekend started off for Jamie well with a 2nd place in qualifying out of the MX2 class, but he knew the start would be all important as the MX1 and MX2 classes are combined for the races. A top five start put him in the mix early, and he pushed on over the first few laps, setting the fastest lap of the race on lap two. He quickly made the positions on his MX2 competitors, and stuck with the MX1 riders to come home with the win in Moto 1.

Moto 2 was much similar from Jamie, with a decent start once again, top 2 in MX2 riders. He made navigating the deep and rough FatCat track look easy, and in dominating fashion crossed the line 18 seconds ahead of his next competitor. A 1-1 for Carpenter in Doncaster, and the red plate heading into round two.

Another great weekend for ur Big Wheel 85 rider, Billy Askew, as he came away unbeaten all weekend once again. 4/4 race wins gives Billy the red plate for round two, and so far an unbeaten season after the first round of each British Championship attended.

Ollie Colmer came home with 2nd place Overall this weekend, a solid start to the season. A 2-2-2-3 scorecard showed he is in great contention, with consistent results and a positive mindset, we are looking forward to seeing Ollie push for that top step of the podium each week. He also looks forward to the EMX125 series in Italy in a few weeks time.

Finlay Evans once again showed his decision to move up to the MXY2 class worthwhile, after showing great pace and competitiveness right away at round one. Three top four finishes over the weekend showed he is right up there on pace with the best, and he is continuing to find his feet to work towards the podium. A very positive start to his career on the bigger bikes.

Overall another incredibly positive weekend of racing, taking home three podiums, and two points leaders going into round two at Landrake in April. Next up on the British calendar will be Foxhill for round two of the Revo ACU British Championship, the first hard-pack race of the season.
