Searle and Mewse take Cadders Hill by storm! 2022 Revo ACU British Motocross Championship Round 3 – Race Report & Results

The historic Cadders Hill venue, otherwise known as Lyng in Norfolk was greeted by beautiful sunshine as the Revo British Motocross Championship Fuelled by Gulf Race Fuels rolled into town.

Spectators lined the fences and were treated to fantastic racing throughout all classes on a perfectly prepped old school circuit. Behind the gate at this round, we had the 85BW class, 125cc class, MX2 and MX1.

The 85BW class kicked us off and there was one man eager to assert himself at the front after narrowly missing out on the overall at Foxhill, that man was Billy Askew. Billy looked untouchable all day on the sandy surface and went 1-1 to take the overall and add to his Championship points lead. Jake Walker had a quieter day than the previous round at Foxhill and brought the bike home with a 2-2 scorecard for 2nd overall. Jake will be looking forward to getting back to some hardpack racing. Just as he did last time out, Josh Vail snatched 3rd overall, with a 3-3 scorecard and two consistent rides. Josh has asserted himself in this position and will be looking to build on it from this point to challenge the two at the front.

Billy Askew

The 125cc class greeted the banks of Lyng with that beautiful soundtrack we all know and love. Charlie Heyman came into this round leading the Championship after a dominant performance at Culham, however, things did not go as smoothly this time as Heyman was involved in a crash in the first moto leaving the young SJP rider with work to do and ground to make up. Charlie sliced his way through the field and managed to grab a 4th place. Heyman, hell-bent to make up to the first one, came out to redeem himself in the second moto, got out front and never looked back, winning the race with a sizable margin over the field, 4-1 scores yielding him 2nd overall.

Cole Mccullough made a real impression this weekend and showed he is really starting to find his feet on the 125cc machine after moving up from the 85 for this year. Cole put together two fantastic performances finishing 2nd in both motos and with Heyman and Colmer both having their issues, Cole’s consistency granted the youngster the overall. Ollie Colmer came out swinging in the first 125 moto of the day and snatched the lead from Mcculough to take the win, Ollie was looking good to grab himself the overall however a crash in the second race meant he could only come in 6th, the 1-6 scorecard got him the third step on the box.

The big news surrounding the MX2 class in the week leading up to Lyng was that Dylan Walsh was moving from MX1 back to MX2 to contest on the 250 machines. This got people speculating whether or not he could take the fight to Conrad Mewse. All the speculation was soon put to bed when Conrad came out qualified on pole and won the first moto.

This was a big weekend for Conrad as a lot of his personal sponsors were in attendance to cheer him on. Mewse was looking to make a perfect weekend on the scorecard with another win, however, Dylan Walsh grabbed the holeshot which meant the fans would get what they wanted, a battle for the win between these two great riders. This was short-lived though as Mewse made the pass in the first couple of laps as Walsh made a mistake. This yielded Conrad the overall win with a 1-1 scorecard and yielded Walsh 2nd overall with a 2-2 scorecard. Just behind this battle came Jamie Law who put in two fantastic rides to come in 3rd overall with a 3-3 scorecard. This MX2 class was hotly contested throughout the day with several riders fighting for a top 5 overall, but it was Tom Grimshaw who grabbed 4th overall, showing at the front of this class is where he belongs.

Conrad Mewse

The MX1 class has had a little deja vu of last year with Searle and Kullas fighting it out at each round and being the central protagonists in this Championship. Lyng was no exception and the two of them started from where they left it at Foxhill. Kullas got a great start in race 1 and got to the lead, setting the early race pace, meanwhile, Searle had work to do and started the moto in and around 5th. Tommy was feeling fast around the Lyng circuit and soon charged through the group ahead of him to get to 2nd, there was little time left in the moto but Searle mounted a charge on Kullas but the race win went to the Finnish rider.

The charge Tommy put on in the first moto let Kullas know that the Brit had the speed in the tank for race 2. Moto 2 gates dropped, and Searle got off to a flyer, grabbing the holeshot in a bid to lead from the front, Tommy seemed to control the race from this point with Kullas and a whole list of hungry challengers in pursuit. Kullas tried to put pressure on the Brit on numerous occasions but Searle’s experience shone through controlling the gap, Tommy went on to win the race with Kullas coming in 2nd. This meant with a better last race Searle won the overall with a 2-1 scorecard and Kullas was second overall with a 1-2 scorecard this means the gap remains the same between them at the top of the table.

The best racing on track was in the fight for the third step of the podium, Jake Nicholls, Josh Gilbert and Shaun Simpson went at it all day separated by nothing in both motos, the level of racing between them was superb and due to their mixed results, they all finished on the same points. Despite this it was Jake Nicholls who managed to grab 3rd spot on the podium due to his better race 2 score, Nicholls went 5-3 for third, Gilbert went 4-4 for 4th and Simpson went 3-5 for 5th.

The Revo ACU British Motocross Championship Fuelled by Gulf Race Fuels takes a weekend off before heading to Kent to the Canada Heights circuit for fourth stop of the 2022 calendar with the Big Wheel 85cc, 125cc, 250cc, MX2 and MX1 classes.
