Purdon and Heyman seal 2026 Scottish Motocross titles at Drumclog finale

The bittersweet feeling of the final round of the 2026 Scottish Motocross Championship brought out some of the best performances across all classes. With a few championships still to be decided over the weekend, even the weather couldn’t dampen the spirits of those pushing hard to reap the benefits of standing on the top step of the podium.

From the youngest Auto riders to the premier class stars, the spectators were treated to dominant performances, nail-biting championship battles, and several riders achieving perfect scorecards. There were tears and tantrums throughout the field as the conditions got the better of some of the riders, but for the most part, resilience paid off for those who embraced the track and got on with the job of not just winning but making a statement.

Pro MX1 (Sponsored by Safe Access Highland Ltd)

The premier MX1 class provided a fitting finale to a superb day of racing. Triston Purdon claimed overall honours with 68 points after taking victories in the final two motos and demonstrated excellent consistency throughout. Purdon had targeted the win all week, visiting the track last week to acclimatise himself, and it paid off big time. Freddie Bartlett kept the pressure on all day and finished only four points adrift in second place, while Bobby Bruce completed the podium after winning the opening race and remaining in contention throughout the meeting. Bruce showed he has the speed to win any race and demonstrated he will be a real threat next year. After all the anticipation of winning a championship, Ben Edwards just couldn’t get there. After a second corner front end wipeout in race 1, that one crash limited his chances on the day and put pay to his push for the top step and the championship win. No regrets, though; he did his best and had the crowds cheering him on, and hopefully, he’ll be back next year to give Scotland the home win. Carlton Husband showed some blistering pace early on and proved he can still pull off a hole-shot when it matters. Husband and Jason Meara both recorded solid results in one of the strongest fields of the day. It was great to see a full grid of Pro riders, and it bodes well for the future.

Championship Summary – The premier MX1 championship saw Triston Purdon crowned champion with 391 points following a season-long battle with Ben Edwards, who finished just 10 points adrift in second place, making it one of the closest title fights of the year. Bobby Bruce claimed third overall, but it could’ve been a closer title race if his blistering pace had grabbed more race wins. Jason Meara was never far away all season; the quick Irishman always gives his best. Charley Irwin and Carlton Husband completed the top six with some suitably impressive riding over the six rounds.

Pro MX2 (Sponsored by Safe Access Highland Ltd)

The MX2 class saw a championship-style performance from Charlie Heyman, who dominated all three races to secure maximum points and overall victory. Heyman not only left the rest of the class in his wake, but he also did his best to push the MX1 riders all the way. The fight for second proved much closer. Jamie Keith and Glen McCormack both finished on 62 points, with Keith taking the runner-up position on countback. Max Harris, Bailey Johnston, and youth-class winner Malachi Allan all enjoyed strong results within a highly competitive field. Special mention to Lucy Barker, who not only rode the Ladies Cup but did so coming straight after the 20-minute Pro race! Supreme effort from the incredible rider.

Championship Summary – Charlie Heyman delivered a standout season to secure the MX2 championship with 441 points. Glen McCormack finished second after a consistent campaign, while Jack Meara completed the podium positions with some spirited riding. Lewis Hall, Ryan Waggott and Frazer Norrie all finished inside the top six.

Auto’s (Sponsored by FXR)

There was a bumper entry in the last round for the Auto class. On show, the future stars of the sport, and it was Alex Wilson who proved unstoppable throughout the day. Wilson delivered a flawless performance, taking victory in all three motos to finish with a maximum of 75 points and establish himself as the clear class winner on the day. Behind him, Ralph Khamouli rode consistently to secure second overall with 62 points, recording a pair of second-place finishes in the final two races. Caelan Wilson completed the podium after a strong and steady day, while Corey McAleer and Jack Jamieson ended the meeting tied on 49 points, separated only by race finishing positions. A strong opening two motos had Tyler Coull challenging for the podium until a difficult final race dropped him to sixth overall.

Championship summary – The Auto championship was one of the closest contests of the season, with Jack Jamieson claiming the title on 344 points with his perseverance, just 14 points ahead of Caelan Wilson. Defending champion Ralph Khamouli finished third, while only 42 points separated the top five riders, highlighting the competitiveness throughout the year. With 19 riders on the grid, it could be an even closer run championship in 2027. Let’s hope we see a healthy number on the grid next year.

65’s (Sponsored by FXR)

One of the most dominant displays of the weekend came from Olly McLean. McLean was simply untouchable, winning all five motos and collecting the maximum 125 points available. His holeshots and consistent race pace left the rest of the field fighting amongst themselves for the remaining podium positions. Josh Alexander’s solid rides did enough to claim second overall with 108 points, narrowly holding off Connor Kenningley, six points behind in third. Further down the order, Ollie Hain, Leon Cherry, and Haiden Milne all demonstrated impressive consistency across the five-race format.

Championship summary – For the most part, Josh Alexander dominated the 65cc championship with an impressive 679 points, comfortably securing the title ahead of Haiden Milne and Ollie Hain, who completed the podium positions. Oliver Fenton, Katie Beecroft and Lachlan Jnr James rounded out the top six. The 65cc class has historically been the breeding ground for riders who go onto bigger things and there’s plenty depth in the class to prove that, roll on 2027 to see who comes to the fore.

85’s SW/BW (Sponsored by Rinaldi)

SW

The 85 Small Wheel division saw another perfect scorecard, this time from Lyall Rutherford. Displaying excellent racecraft and blistering speed, Rutherford completed a clean sweep of all five races to secure maximum points and overall victory. Liam Hannah’s smooth, consistent pace was equally impressive, finishing second in every moto to secure runner-up honours with 110 points. The battle for third was much closer, with Daniel Morris edging out Jake Airey by just a single point after a strong finish. Jack Heath and Archie Armstrong also featured prominently in several races and kept the midfield battles entertaining throughout.

Championship summary – For all his efforts, it was not to be for Lyall Rutherford as one of the closest championship battles of 2026 saw Liam Hannah edge out Rutherford by just four points. Hannah did what was required of him at Drumclog, and he reaped the rewards for his solid riding. Jack Heath took third place ahead of Aiden Anton, with the top four battling out a highly competitive campaign.

BW

The 85 Big Wheel class produced some excellent racing, and Ricky Barrack shone bright in his spotless white kit. Riding in front has its advantages, as he remained pristine throughout. It’s no fluke that he won the championship, and the hard work paid off. He emerged as the overall winner thanks to four race victories and a second-place finish. His tally of 122 points was enough to keep a comfortable gap over the chasing pack. Ben Alexander secured second overall with a highly consistent series of podium finishes, while Vinnie Anderson finished third after improving throughout the day. The potential game changer to the story was Alfie Lawrie; he could have overhauled Barrack to take the championship, but he couldn’t match Ricky’s intensity. Although Alfie won a race and looked capable of challenging for victory, his misfortunes in the final two motos dropped him to fifth overall.

Championship summary – Ricky Barrack produced a strong and consistent season to take the 85cc Big Wheel title on 599 points. After having suffered injuries in the past two seasons, he shrugged off the past and looked unstoppable with comfortable wins over Alfie Lawrie, who finished second, with Ben Alexander completing the championship podium. Vinnie Anderson, James McCann and Baili Black also enjoyed solid campaigns to finish inside the top six. 2027 promises to bring even more thrilling racing in this class.

Youth 125/250 (Sponsored by Stirlings Powersports)

125

The Youth 125 class featured a tightly contested battle at the front. Archie Butterfield claimed the overall victory through consistency rather than outright domination, recording three second-place finishes worth 66 points. Just three points behind was John McCann, whose race win in the final moto almost secured the overall. Harry Hall also challenged strongly, taking victory in the second race before settling for third overall. Leo Self, Zak Hendry, and Ollie Holland all delivered solid rides to round out the field.

Championship Summary – Jaden Anderson emerged as the Youth 125 champion with 358 points after a consistent season across the championship. It’s not often the favourite for the title pulls it off, but Anderson never looked in danger of losing out. Newcomer Zak Hendry secured second place, which was a testament to his determination and how he applied himself all season. Kian McGill showed early promise and rounded out the top three. The battle for the remaining top six positions was closely contested between Leo Self, Archie Butterfield and Ben Donaldson.

The Youth 250 category belonged to Malachi Alan, who swept all three races in commanding fashion. His perfect 75-point score highlighted both his speed and consistency, with none of his rivals able to mount a serious challenge. Lewis Spratt finished second overall after three runner-up finishes, as he did keep Allan focused, while Andrew Piggford completed the podium following a close fight with Reid Simpson. The battle for positions behind the top two remained competitive throughout the day, providing plenty of entertainment for spectators. Without doubt, the Youth races are the highlight of any Saturday.

Championship Summary – The Youth 250 championship went down to the wire, with Malachi Allan and Samuel Logan tied on 294 points. Allan was awarded the title on the championship tie-break criteria, as Logan’s lacklustre performance on the day didn’t do him any favours. It was his title to lose as Allan had missed two rounds of the Scottish, and unfortunately, he did. Lewis Spratt secured third place but, again, was not present at every round. Jack Brearey, Bradlee Walker and Patrick Woodside completed the top six.

2 Stroke 150 (Sponsored by Ross Quarry Products) / 2 Stroke Open (Sponsored by Slavin Pant Hire)

The 2-Stroke 150 class saw another rider complete a clean sweep. Hayden Statt delivered maximum points from three races, establishing himself as the clear winner of the category. Andrew Pohlen maintained pressure throughout the meeting but had to settle for second overall on 66 points, with Lewis Farrow completing the podium after a trio of third-place finishes.

Championship Summary – Andrew Pohlen was a clear winner in the 2-Stroke 150 category, finishing on 428 points and opening a significant advantage over the chasing pack. Lewis Farrow and Sean Adams completed the championship podium positions, with Louis Perrin-Brown, Tony Cadman and John Bennett finishing in the top six.

Open

The Open 2-Stroke class produced one of the closest contests of the day. Robbie Scott secured victory with 72 points after winning the final two motos, overturning the advantage held by Jamie Law, who had opened the day with victory in race one. Scott eventually edged Law by just three points at the end of the meeting. Further back, David Anderson, Dylan Kerr, Frazer Norrie, and Gavin Scott were involved in a tight battle for the remaining positions, with only four points separating third from sixth overall.

Championship Summary – The 2-Stroke Open championship remained competitive throughout the season, with Frazer Norrie claiming the title on 328 points. Dylan Kerr pushed him all the way and finished only nine points behind, while Ryan Waggott secured third overall. Gavin Scott, Robert Paterson and Jamie Mitchell also enjoyed strong seasons.

Adult Support

The Adult Support races were won by Charley Irwin, who demonstrated excellent pace over both outings. Irwin not only claimed victory in each race but also recorded the fastest lap times, underlining his dominance. Ryan Waggott secured second overall after two consistent performances, while Lucy Barker impressed by claiming third place in both races, which gave her the perfect platform to race in multiple classes on Sunday.

Ladies Cup

The Ladies Cup saw a superb performance from Lucy Barker, who completed a perfect day of racing by winning all three motos. Her maximum 75-point haul ensured a comfortable overall victory and capped off one of the standout individual performances of the event as she lapped most of the field. Barker got out of the gate and surpassed all Vet riders, showing them what youth can do. Holly Williams finished second after three runner-up results, while Laura Glegg battled to secure the final podium position. Lexi Robertson and Elise Johnston completed the top five after strong and consistent rides.

Vets 40,50 and 60 (Sponsored by Drysdales Motorcycles)

Over 40s

The O40 class belonged to Paul Johnston, who claimed maximum points with three convincing race victories. Johnston’s flawless scorecard left no doubt in the category. Ewan Porter took second overall with three runner-up finishes, while Drew Morten rounded out the podium after a steady day’s racing.

Championship Summary – George Stewart demonstrated excellent consistency to take the Over 40 championship with 364 points. Craig Hutchison secured second place, while Duncan Robertson completed the podium. An unfortunate injury to Kevin McBride when he was giving it “max effort” in the last round limited his season, as Mark Sutherland and Paul Johnston were among the leading contenders for places throughout the season.

Over 50s

The O50 category delivered one of the closest battles of the day. Tommy Drysdale eventually emerged victorious with 70 points. Only three points separated the top three riders overall. Jackie Munro won the final moto and narrowly missed out on victory, while Morton Hannah remained in contention throughout the meeting to finish third overall. The close scoring reflected the competitive nature of the class.

Championship Summary – The Over 50 championship was won by Barry Gray, who topped the standings on 366 points. Having done enough to win the championship, he was not present at the final round. Morton Hannah finished second after a strong challenge, while Graham Ross secured third overall. Jackie Munro, Richard Miller and Ian Ross completed the top six.

Over 60s

Experience shone through in the O60 class as Les Winthorp produced a perfect display, taking maximum points and all three race wins. Behind him, Ian Wilson edged Stephen Pollock in a close battle for second place, with both riders demonstrating excellent consistency throughout the day. The slippery conditions gave Wilson a bit of concern early in the day as he slid out on a jump face, but he picked himself up and powered his way to second.

Championship Summary – Les Winthorp enjoyed a dominant season in the Over 60 class, claiming the championship with 444 points. Stephen Pollock and Ian Wilson filled the remaining podium positions, while Andrew Beatty finished fourth in the final standings.

Amateur (Sponsored by Drysdales Motorcycles)

The Amateur class provided exciting racing from start to finish. Aaron Tait secured overall victory with 68 points thanks to wins in races one and three. It was a good return to racing for the young lad who had nothing to prove but grabbed the opportunity with both hands. Only two points behind was Aaron Framingham, whose three second-place finishes proved the value of consistency. Ewan Morrison claimed third overall after taking victory in the second moto, while Sam Cornwell, Bradlee Walker, and Nathan Rock completed the top six.

Championship Summary – The Amateur championship was won by Tony Cadman, who finished on 331 points following a season of strong performances. Bradlee Walker and Rory Cultra secured second and third, respectively, while Nathan Rock, Ruairi Grimes and Matt Wright rounded out the top six.

Expert (Sponsored by Drysdales Motorcycles)

The Expert category produced one of the closest contests of the day. Gavin Scott claimed overall victory by the narrowest of margins, finishing on 60 points. Just one point behind came Ryan Ingram, who recovered brilliantly from a difficult opening race to win the final two motos and almost snatch the overall. Adam Reeve completed the podium after consistently running near the front throughout the day. The margins remained incredibly tight, with only eight points covering the top five riders.

Championship Summary – Ryan Ingram took the Expert championship with a commanding total of 390 points. He was virtually unbeatable all year. Andrew Pohlen was in second place, while David Anderson secured third overall. Dylan Kerr, Robbie McCulloch and Owen Hendry completed the top six in a highly competitive class.

Drumclog was the perfect venue for a season finale as it provided a great track for great riders to shine. The final round delivered everything fans could ask for: dominant performances, dramatic title battles, and exciting racing from the very first gate drop to the final chequered flag. Perfect-scoring performances from riders including Olly McLean, Lyall Rutherford, Malachi Allan, Hayden Statt, Charlie Heyman, Paul Johnston, Les Winthorp, Lucy Barker and Alex Wilson highlighted an exceptional day of motocross, while incredibly close contests in the MX1, Expert, O50 and Amateur classes ensured spectators were kept on their toes all day.

The Scottish Championship 2026 has delivered some of the best racing to be had in the UK on some of Scotland’s finest tracks. It continues to be run by passionate, experienced people who benefit from having some of the best riders the UK has to offer. Let’s hope it continues to grow and nurture young talent.
