From Paddock to Pocket – The Story behind RideHQ the Motocross bike maintenance app

RideHQ motocross bike maintenance app developed in the UK to help riders manage servicing, bike setup and maintenance

What started as a conversation between a motocross-mad father and son has turned into an exciting new UK-based business looking to change the way riders maintain and manage their bikes.

RideHQ is an all-in-one motocross bike maintenance app, designed to be a rider’s pit crew in their pocket, bringing bike maintenance, servicing, setup, ride tracking, parts, weather and more together in one place. Created by British-based motocross enthusiast Luke and his partner Courtney, RideHQ was born out of their own experiences in the sport, with the aim of making it easier for riders to know exactly what their bikes need and when.

But RideHQ didn’t start out as a business idea. It started with a dad, his son and a problem they kept running into every weekend.

From Father and Son to RideHQ

Luke has been riding motocross since he was ten, when his dad built him his first bike. He was a little hesitant at first, but as soon as he got on, motocross became a passion that has stuck with him ever since. Even now, Luke and his dad spend most weekends out riding together. For years, they kept saying the same thing: “I wish there was an app for this.”

Between riding, working on the bikes and spending time in the van or shed, they were constantly trying to remember what maintenance had been done, what needed doing next, which parts they had and what should be prioritised. They knew there had to be an easier way. Fast forward to Luke breaking his wrist on a skiing trip, and he found himself with some unexpected time off work. So he decided to build the maintenance app he and his dad had always talked about – originally just for the two of them. That’s where his partner Courtney came in.

With six years of experience in marketing, she immediately saw that what Luke had built could fill a much bigger gap in the motocross world. There wasn’t anything offering riders an all-in-one place to manage their bikes, riding and maintenance in the way they had envisaged. They started testing the idea on social media and quickly began getting interest from the likes of Monster Energy, professional riders and podcast hosts. That gave them the confidence to take the idea seriously and turn it into RideHQ.

A Motocross Pit Crew in Your Pocket

RideHQ is designed to bring everything a rider needs to manage their motocross bike into one place.

The app is tailored to each rider’s specific bike, allowing them to track bike hours, servicing, suspension and setups, log rides, manage inventory, calculate premix and check track-specific weather before heading out. One of the biggest problems RideHQ aims to solve is knowing exactly what your bike needs and when. The maintenance system notifies riders when something is due, so instead of trying to remember what needs changing or spending hours searching online for the right part, they know exactly what they need. Whether it’s keeping on top of regular servicing, remembering suspension settings or preparing for the next weekend at the track, the aim is to make bike maintenance simpler and more organised.

Finding the Right Parts for Your Bike

RideHQ has also partnered with Motocross Parts UK, making it easier for riders to find parts specific to their bike without having to search through the internet for hours. When the app tells you a part is due, you can find the correct part for your specific bike and look for it at the best available price. It’s another part of RideHQ’s ambition to make life easier for everyday motocross riders, helping them spend less time worrying about maintenance and more time enjoying their riding.

Meet Piston Steve – AI Built for Motocross

One of the newest features coming soon to RideHQ is Piston Steve, an AI assistant being developed specifically for motocross. Named after Luke’s dad, Piston Steve is designed to answer motocross questions and give advice on maintenance, setup and figuring out what to do next based on your bike’s history. It’s a fitting name for a feature that brings the whole RideHQ story back to where it started – a father and son working on their bikes and trying to make things easier.

Making RideHQ Accessible to Every Rider

The biggest thing for Luke and Courtney was making RideHQ accessible to everyone. The app has a free version, with the Pro version costing just £4.99 a month – less than a burger at the track! They wanted riders to be able to use RideHQ regardless of their experience or budget, rather than creating something that was only aimed at professional racers. From young riders and weekend enthusiasts to those competing regularly, the idea is to give everyone access to tools that can help them look after their bikes.

Alongside the app, Luke and Courtney have also launched a range of trackside clothing. Their mission is to build RideHQ into more than just an app – but a community within the sport.

A Homegrown Motocross Business with Big Ambitions

What makes RideHQ particularly interesting is the story behind it. Rather than being developed by a large technology company, it’s a UK-based project that grew from a genuine problem experienced by a father and son who spend their weekends riding motocross. With Luke’s passion for riding and developing the app, combined with Courtney’s marketing experience, the pair are looking to turn something originally created for their own use into a useful tool for the wider motocross community. And with new features such as Piston Steve on the horizon, alongside the existing maintenance, setup and parts tools, the RideHQ team has plenty of ambitions for the future.

For riders who have ever forgotten when they last changed their piston, struggled to remember their suspension settings or wondered what maintenance their bike needs next, RideHQ could be worth a look.
