Mewse on the verge! 2025 Scottish Motocross Championship Round 5 - Preview

All roads lead to Rhynie in Aberdeenshire for Scottish Motocross racers as the fifth and penultimate round of the 2025 Scottish Motocross Championship is set to be hosted there this weekend, 5th & 6th July.

In the MX1 pro ranks, Crendon Tru7 Honda’s Conrad Mewse could wrap up the title in Rhynie a round early, which, based on his injury struggles this year, it would be a welcome result for the West Country racer. Conrad has a 42-point lead, which means he only needs to score eight or more than Brad Todd, who is 2nd in the championship, to claim the crown. Third-placed Ben Edwards is out with injury, which is a huge shame for the rider who took the scalp of Mewse earlier in the year and has been in fine form. Lexa MX’s John Adamson returns from MXGP duty, as does SC Sporthomes Husqvarna’s Tristan Purdon, both of whom could well throw a spanner in the works. With Edwards out, the opportunity is there for Apico Honda’s Martin Barr and Moto-Cycle Racing’s Jason Meara to make a push for the podium or higher, as the deficit to Todd isn’t beyond reach.

Pro MX2 is a lot tighter with the impressive Max Harris holding a 13-point lead over reigning champion SC Sporthomes Charlie Heyman, who comes to Rhynie hot off a great EMX250 performance at the MXGP of Great Britain.  Still within striking distance are 46 year old Richard McKeown and Ryan Thomsen.

Other titles that could go this weekend are in the 65cc and 85cc classes.  Finlee Pope has a 59-point lead in the 65cc class, so for him to take home the championship, he needs to score 16 more points than Aiden Anton in second, but you know Aiden will be pushing hard to ensure that doesn’t happen.

In the Big Wheel 85’s, Malachi Allan could be revelling at Rhynie if he notches up 20 more points than his closest challenger, Alfie Lawrie.

On the other end of the spectrum we could see all three Vets Champions crowned with a round to go with George Stewart in the Over 40’s just needing to score 10 points more than Michael Graham, the Ver 50’s Richard Miller needs to wrack up a single point more than Brian Fraser and Ian Wilson in the Over 60’s has a massive 85 point lead so with second place finishes in each moto the title will be his.
