One of Scotland’s top tracks delivered everything motocross is known for — deep ruts, brutal chop, and a layout that rewards bravery as much as finesse. Across every class, the racing was fierce, the pace relentless, and the championship storylines began to take shape. From the Autos to the elite Pro ranks, round 2 produced standout performances and breakthrough rides across all classes.
Race Report and Images by Raymond Thomsen – Madmaxmedia
Throw in some treacherous conditions on Saturday, and it was almost the hardest test for any rider. Sunday, however, restored everyone’s cheer as the sun shone and gave the riders some relief, so they could battle it out without any hardship. The Scottish Motocross Championship certainly continues to deliver some of the best racing in the UK.

Saturday 9th May
Auto’s (Sponsored by FXR)
The smallest riders on the track delivered big on excitement. Caelan Wilson took wins in Motos 2 and 3 to secure the overall, while Lennox Luff’s Moto 1 win kept things close. Ollie Smillie, Ralph Khamouli and Corey McAleer all tied on points for 3rd, with Smillie taking the position on countback. It was no easy task considering the difficult weather at times, but the youngsters’ talents shone through.

65’s (Sponsored by FXR)
The 65-class served up some thrilling racing. Ellik Miller won three of the five races and took the overall, but Josh Alexander kept the pressure on with wins in Motos 1 and 5. Katie Beecroft was superbly consistent with three 2nd‑place finishes with some great hole shots thrown in, while Oliver Fenton completed the top four with some solid riding. It’s already shaping up to be a championship that will go to the wire.

SW
One of the most dominant riders of the weekend was Lyall Rutherford, who delivered a flawless 1–1–1–1–1. Liam Hannah, Aiden Anton, and Jack Heath finished in identical race order, respectively 2–3–4, in every moto — a rare display of class‑wide consistency. The pack will do well to knock Rutherford off the top step, but I’m sure they’ll come back next round and try.

BW
Great to see Ethan Gawley back to Duns as he won four of the five motos to take a commanding overall victory. Another rider returning was Baili Black; he was consistent both days, while Tommy Hutchinson’s Moto 5 win showed he’ll be a threat as the season progresses. James McCann rounded out a competitive top four. This class has some real depth to it, as any of the eight riders has a turn of speed that can be turned into a race win.

Youth 125/250 (Sponsored by Stirlings Powersports)
Jaden Anderson certainly delivered with a perfect 1–1–1. Behind him, Ollie Holland and Will Wood tied on points in a fierce battle for 2nd, while Archie Butterfield’s huge Moto 3 ride vaulted him into the top four. The 125 class is another with some great depth, so don’t write off the championship just yet.

The Youth 250 class pitted two great riders against each other. Lewis Spratt won the first two motos, but Malachi Allan came alive in Moto 3 to take the win. Spratt’s early advantage secured the overall, while Cory McAteer and Tom Bishop completed the top four.

2 Stroke 125 (Sponsored by Ross Quarry Products) / 2 Stroke Open (Sponsored by Slavin Pant Hire)
The 2‑Stroke Open class produced one of the day’s best rivalries. Ryan Waggott took Moto 1, but Max Harris responded with back‑to‑back wins in Motos 2 and 3 to secure the overall. Alex Henderson delivered three identical 3rd‑place
finishes — the picture of consistency — while Dylan Kerr rounded out the top four.
No stranger to a 2-stroke bike, Andrew Pohlen delivered a flawless performance with 1–1–1. Andrew Cochrane and Lewis Farrow kept him honest early on, but Pohlen’s pace was simply on another level. Scott Forsyth completed the top four with three tidy 4th‑place finishes.

Sunday 10th May
Vets 40,50 and 60 (Sponsored by Drysdales Motorcycles)
The O40S saw George Stewart dominating the opening two motos, giving him enough cushion to secure the overall despite Kevin McBride’s Moto 3 victory, where he had to give max effort to overcome his injuries to win. Leon Murray and Craig Hutchison completed a tight top four.
In the O50’s, a perfect 1–1–1 from Barry Gray left no doubt about who controlled the Over‑50 class. It was a return to form for Gray, who benefited from riding a borrowed CRF450. Richard Miller was strong but could not match Gray’s pace, while Graham Ross and main race sponsor Tommy Drysdale rounded out the top four.

Last time at Tain, Ian Wilson had a heavy tumble in practice and battled on, but he was back to full fitness for Duns. Wilson took the first two motos, but Les Winthorp answered with a Moto 3 win. Wilson’s early dominance secured the overall, while Stephen Pollock’s trio of 3rd‑place finishes earned him a solid podium.
Amateur (Sponsored by Drysdales Motorcycles)
Three different riders won motos, but Ross Graham’s trio of 2nd‑place finishes earned him the overall. Tony Cadman’s Moto 3 win nearly stole the show, while Myles Elliot and Bradlee Walker both had flashes of brilliance. This class is so unpredictable that it is what makes it great.

Expert (Sponsored by Drysdales Motorcycles)
The Experts class was chaotic, unpredictable, and brilliant to watch. Ryan Ingram won Moto 1, David Anderson won Moto 2, but it was Zachary Pearson who emerged with the overall thanks to his consistency. Ollie Holland surged late in the day to secure 4th overall. This class had more plot twists than any other — and the championship is wide open.

MX2 – Heyman Sweeps the Field
If there was one rider who looked a class above, it was Charlie Heyman. The SC Sporthomes Husqvarna rider swept all three motos with MX1‑level lap times, carving through traffic with precision. Behind him, Glen McCormack and Brad Anderson fought tooth‑and‑nail for the remaining podium spots, but neither had an answer for Heyman’s pace.

Pro MX1 (Sponsored by Safe Access Highland Ltd)
MX1 – Edwards Takes Control as Purdon Strikes Late
The MX1 class delivered three motos of high‑intensity racing. Ben Edwards claimed the overall with a rock‑solid 2–1–2, his Moto 2 win proving decisive. Bobby Bruce opened the day with a blistering Moto 1 victory but could not match Edwards’ consistency with a 3rd in Moto 3, which cost him the chance of the overall. Triston Purdon saved his best for last, unleashing his fastest pace of the day to win Moto 3 in dominant fashion. There’s a lot more to come from this class, as you could see, the riders are just getting into their race pace. It’s anyone’s guess who will dominate, but it will be a fight to the end.

The next round of The Scottish Championship will be at Elgin Motocross on 6th and 7th June.
