Over the past weekend, the historical Vantaa track, characterised by a sandy and compact ground, has hosted the Grand Prix of Finland, 14th round of the FIM Motocross World Championship 2023.
As Alessandro Lupino is still dealing with the back injury suffered in Indonesia, it was only up to Ben Watson (Beta RX450) to represent the MRT Racing Team Beta Factory colours.
Despite finishing 19th in the timed practice session, Watson managed to climb back up to 15th position in qualifying. Unfortunately, the overtaking challenges of the Vantaa track made the English rider slipped a couple of times while trying to gain positions. The rider did a better performance in the second heat, which he finished in 15th position. These nine points allowed him to confirm his 13th position in the Championship.
Ben Watson: “The Finnish stage was a difficult one. Honestly, I felt pretty good on the bike and, despite some mistakes during the races, my speed was very good. Unfortunately, I often made things difficult for myself by sliding off the bike, which didn’t allow me to get the results I wanted. However, I am not giving up, now we will have a free weekend to get ready and face the last 5 GPs of the season at our best. We will also use this time to keep developing together with the team.”
In two weeks, over the weekend of 12th and 13th August, the MRT Racing Team Beta Factory will be competing in the Swedish Grand Prix to be held, as is tradition, at the Uddevalla track.
