Consistency pays off for Edwards! 2026 Scottish Motocross Championship Round 3 -Race Report & Results

The Scottish Motocross Championship continued with Round 3 at Grampian Motocross Elgin circuit, which delivered a weekend of classic Scottish motocross. Deep sandy ruts, fast straights, and a track that tested even the most technical riders. With sunshine breaking through the Moray clouds, the odd shower didn’t dampen the determination; every class produced standout performances.

Race Report and Images by Raymond Thomson – madmaxmedia

The local riders relished the chance to put their track savvy to the ultimate test against some of the best UK riders who made the journey north.

Saturday 6th June

Auto’s (Sponsored by FXR) – Kerridge Untouchable

The youngest racers opened the weekend with some of the tightest bar-to-bar action. LOUIE KERRIDGE was flawless, sweeping all three motos for a perfect 75-point maximum. Behind him, TYLER COULL and ALEX WILSON traded places all day, their 60 and 58 points reflecting just how close their battles were. A special mention goes to JACK JAMIESON, who’s aggressive second moto charge kept the podium fight alive right to the final flag.

The 65’s

65’s (Sponsored by FXR) – Alexander Dominates the Field

If there was a masterclass in consistency, JOSH ALEXANDER delivered it. Building on his results from Duns, he secured all five motos with five wins, 125 points, and a statement to the rest of the class. ELLIK MILLER kept the pressure on with some strong second‑place finishes, while HAIDEN MILNE and KATIE BEECROFT showed impressive pace, especially in the mid‑motos where the track was at its roughest. Bike problems at the start of the weekend limited BEECROFT, but there’s momentum building as she showed her great riding on Sunday.

Josh Alexander

85’s SW/BW (Sponsored by Rinaldi) – SW – Hannah Holds Firm

The SW85 class was a showcase of raw speed and developing race craft. LIAM HANNAH took the overall with 111 points, using smart line choices and late‑race pace to edge out AIDEN ANTON. LYALL RUTHERFORD, who posted two moto wins and a string of podium rides despite a missing result in moto three. His speed was certainly there, but that one race dropped him down the podium.

Liam Hannah

BW – Black Back on Top

The BW85 pack was stacked, but BAILI BLACK rose above the chaos with a commanding 116‑point haul. He looked invincible, and his speed was electrifying. Jumping through deep sand, he looked effortless. RICKY BARRACK did his best, keeping him honest all day with some solid riding and great pace, while ALFIE LAWRIE delivered one of his strongest rounds of the season with consistent top‑three speed. The mid‑pack battles were some of the fiercest of the weekend, with BEN ALEXANDER and JAMES MCCANN trading elbows and roost in every moto.

Three motos, three wins, and a perfect 75 points for JADEN ANDERSON, who looked silky smooth across the Elgin sand. Rising from the chasing pack, ZAK HENDRY pushed hard but couldn’t quite match Anderson’s pace, fantastic performance from the youngster having moved up class, while BEN DONALDSON and LEO SELF produced some close racing in the fight for third overall.

2‑Stroke 150 – Pohlen Perfect

The sweet sound of small‑bore two‑strokes echoed across the circuit as ANDREW POHLEN stormed to a 75‑point maximum. He knows how to rip that bike while LOUIS PERRIN‑BROWN kept the pressure on with three strong second‑place finishes. LEWIS FARROW and TONY CADMAN fought it out for the final podium spot.

Andrew Pohlen

2‑Stroke Open – Preston Unstoppable

The Open class belonged to JAKE PRESTON, who dominated with three wins and a clean sweep. Nice to see him at a Scottish round again away from the Arenacross. Behind him, the battle for second was a thriller, DYLAN CARNEGIE, RYAN WAGGOTT, and FRAZER NORRIE all finished within four points of each other, each taking turns at the sharp end. It was certainly the highlight of Dylan’s weekend as his luck ran out on Sunday.

Ryan Waggott and Charlie Irwin

Adult Support

Adult Support – Rutherford vs Irwin Two motos, two different stories.

In Race 1, CHARLEY IRWIN controlled the pace from the front, but in Race 2 ROSS RUTHERFORD struck back, taking the win and the combined bragging rights. Very close racing and a great intro for the riders who also raced Sunday.
Good to see CHARLIE PUTNAM back in Elgin and he was the model of consistency with two strong podium rides, while DAVID PLANK and EWAN KERMACK battled it out.

George Stewart

Sunday 7th June

Vets 40,50 and 60 (Sponsored by Drysdales Motorcycles)

Vets Over 40 – Stewart’s Clean Sweep

Experience counted for everything as GEORGE STEWART delivered a flawless 75‑point performance. He stated in his post-race interview he had done a “gazillion” laps round Elgin through the years. No wonder he dominated.
KEVIN McBRIDE and CRAIG HUTCHISON rounded out the podium with steady, controlled riding on a track that rewarded hard riding.

Barry Gray

Vets Over 50 – Gray in Command

Another perfect score came from BARRY GRAY, who looked completely at home in the Elgin sand. He certainly loves the 450, but he’ll be back on his 250 for Rhynie. RICHARD MILLER kept pushing all day with three second‑place finishes, while TOMMY DRYSDALE and MORTON HANNAH traded blows for the final podium spot.

Vets Start

Vets Over 60 – Winthrop Untouchable

The elder statesmen of Scottish motocross put on a masterclass of smooth, efficient riding. Sand specialist LES WINTHROP swept all three motos, with IAN WILSON and STEPHEN POLLOCK completing a podium that never changed order. Ironically, Les told me it wasn’t rough enough for him, but the bumps on top of the bumps did enough to keep him amused.

Tony Cadman

Amateur (Sponsored by Drysdales Motorcycles) – Cadman Takes Control

In one of the most competitive classes of the weekend, TONY CADMAN emerged victorious with 72 points, using a 1 2 1 scorecard to secure the overall. DOUGLAS GOODWILL pushed him all the way, while ROSS GRAHAM and DANIEL IRVINE kept the top six tight throughout the day.

Ryan Ingram

Expert (Sponsored by Drysdales Motorcycles)

Adult B – Ingram Perfect

RYAN INGRAM was on rails, taking all three motos for a dominant 75‑point haul. Even when he got a bad start, he ripped through the pack on the first lap and ran well ahead. Behind him, the story changed all day as the unpredictability grew each race. DYLAN KERR, ANDREW POHLEN, and DAVID ANDERSON all finished within four points of each other, each having moments of brilliance and moments of frustration.

Charlie Heyman

Pro MX2 (Sponsored by Safe Access Highland Ltd)

MX2 – Heyman on Another Level

The Pro MX2 class saw CHARLIE HEYMAN deliver a statement ride, easily winning all three motos with trademark aggression and precision. He ran right behind the top three MX1 riders all day showing his potential.

Pro Race Start

Irish riders GLEN McCORMACK and JACK MEARA completed the podium, while LEWIS HALL, RYAN WAGGOTT, and LUCA PEGG fought hard in the chasing pack. The deep sand seemed to suit the top 6 as they swapped lines and positions throughout the day.

Tristan Purdon

Pro MX1 (Sponsored by Safe Access Highland Ltd)

MX1 – Edward’s consistency pays off.

The premier class delivered the drama everyone expected. BEN EDWARDS topped the times in qualifying, but TRISTAN PURDON had the faster lap times in each race. Still getting to grips with the new Kawasaki, he finished ahead of EDWARDS in race 1 and race 2 by a couple of seconds. The animated crowd cheered every time they came past the finish line and up into the tree section, but for PURDON, it was not to be.

Ben Edwards

EDWARDS took the overall with three consistent second‑place finishes. PURDON pulled off track at the finish line early into lap 3 as BOBBY BRUCE, who had blasted out the gate and won the final moto after pushing EDWARDS most of the day. TRISTON PURDON looked set to challenge for the overall, but after a poor start in race 3 and the non‑finish, it cost him dearly. It was a close-run race in the end with EDWARDS securing the overall by 1 point. BRUCE relished the second place, with JASON MEARA benefiting from

Pro race action

PURDON’s misfortune. With 2 race wins, he managed to secure 4th spot. CHARLIE IRWIN and CHARLIE PUTNAM rounded out a fiercely competitive top six.

Bobby Bruce

The next round of The Scottish Championship will be at Rhynie Motocross on 3rd and 4th July.
