Up and Down Hawkstone International for Cab Screens Crescent Yamaha!

The Cab Screens Crescent Yamaha team were out in full force on Sunday the season-opening Hawkstone International Motocross.

Tough day for Harri at Hawkstone

Harri Kullas came into the annual Hawkstone International Motocross with a solid off season behind him, training in Estonia, and then riding in Spain, Belgium and Holland. Qualifying didn’t go to plan as Harri struggled to get a fast lap in, and ended 13th fastest in MX1.

Harri’s poor gate choice meant he started from the outside and was buried in the pack on lap one in 14th. However, even though Harri was moving up in the first few laps, he could not finish the race.

The same issue in race two meant another early exit for Harri.

Harri Kullas – “Overall I’m really happy with the speed and we have made some really good progress with the bike. Obviously a few technical issues but that’s what these events are there for. Thanks to Hawkstone Park for putting on a great event and huge thanks to my mechanic, Steve, for working tirelessly during the week”

Strong debut for Carpenter

Our new MX1 signing, Jamie Carpenter, has been winter training on his Yamaha YZ450F in Spain and the UK, getting up to speed for his rookie 450 season, after a storming MX2 season in 2022.

Jamie qualified well on the driest Hawkstone International track in memory, putting in the 8th fastest time in International MX1.

Jamie started well in the first race and was inside the top 10, looking comfortable in 9th place until the dreaded arm pump kicked in mid-race and dropped him to 13th place by the end.

A similar race two, where Jamie started around the top 10, having a smart ride to finish higher up the leaderboard for 11th place, with 13-11 finishes giving him a strong 11th overall on his MX1 debut.

Jamie Carpenter – “ Positive day for my first race on the 450. Solid qualifying with 8th fastest MX1 time. I had good starts and showed some good pace in the races. We figured out a few things we need to tweak and improve over the next couple of weeks and I’m looking forward to start the season at the first round of MX Nationals in two weeks time”

Sam Nunn ends day on  a high at Hawkstone

Sam Nunn entered the Hawkstone International full of confidence, after a strong off-season. He placed well in MX2 qualifying with the 7th fastest time.

Sam had a great start in race one as was 3rd in the MX2 class, before moving to 2nd on lap one. Sadly on lap three, Sam crashed and dropped well down the field to 10th, before getting into a good rhythm again near then end and making some passes to finish an eventual 7th place.

Sam had a consistent race two, starting top 10 in his class and finishing a strong 9th place, for a great 8th overall in the International MX2 class.

With the combined Super Final to end the day, Sam definitely saved the best til last, as he held down 2nd place early on before losing a few positions and then re-grouping for a strong finish in 4th place in the MX2 class. A great way to end the day for our MX2 pilot.

Sam Nunn – “Nice to get the first race of 2023 out of the way. I struggled with the track all day but definitely lots of positives to take away. Few things to work on before the National races start. Thanks to the whole team for the support – looking forward to the MX Nationals round one in two weeks time”

The Next Race for the team is March 12th, Michelin MX Nationals Round One Oakhanger, Hampshire.
