South Wales MXC defy challenging conditions to host thrilling Round 2 - Report & Results

The South Wales Motocross Club returned to Monster Mountain for Round 2 of the SWMXC Championship, and despite a week of relentless rain and challenging weather conditions, the event proved to be a huge success.

Words and Images by South Wales MXC

Credit must go to the Monster Mountain track crew, who worked tirelessly throughout the week to prepare and seal the all-weather circuit, providing riders with a superb racing surface that held up brilliantly throughout the day. Their efforts ensured close racing, plenty of overtaking opportunities and, most importantly, a fun and safe day for riders of all ages and abilities.

Adding to the excitement was the appearance of multiple British Motocross Champion Conrad Mewse, who used the event as part of his preparation for this weekend’s MXGB British Championship Round 5 at Monster Mountain. Alongside fellow MXGB stars Jamie Keith and Finlay Jay, spectators were treated to a glimpse of some of the UK’s very best motocross talent.

Barney Harris looked set for the overall victory after recording a win and a second-place finish in the opening motos, but a non-finish in the final race dropped him to sixth overall. Grayson Williams and Osian Jones completed the top five, while Edward Foley finished seventh after also suffering misfortune in the final race.

65cc JUNIOR

Ellis Owen dominated proceedings with three race wins and maximum points.

Louis Odwyer finished second overall, eleven points adrift, with Codi Jones completing the podium just two points further back.

Charlie Hayward, Osian Davies and Arlo Roach were separated by only three points in a tightly contested battle for fourth through sixth. Jaxon Owen-Young claimed seventh on countback from Ted Davies, with Iestyn Thomas and Rio Coburn completing the top ten.

85cc YOUTH

Big Wheel

Rhys Jones delivered one of the standout performances of the day, claiming three race wins and maximum points.

Parker Thomas secured second overall ahead of CJ Spokes in third, with the leading trio pulling clear of the rest of the field. Oscar John and Carwyn Nation completed the top five.

Small Wheel

Jexter Taylor took the opening race victory, but Jeston Hillman responded in style by winning the final two motos to secure the overall victory.

Finlay Lewis completed the podium, while Ellis Phillips and Efan Jones rounded out the top five.

ADULT NOVICE / STEADY

Zax Watkins looked set to complete a perfect day until Rhys Jones produced a superb late-race charge in the final moto to deny him maximum points.

Watkins still secured the overall victory ahead of Jones, with Christopher Maeo and Jerome Nunes also featuring prominently throughout the day. Ben Sullivan completed the top five.

Vets 45+

Christian Seldon claimed maximum points but was pushed hard throughout the day by Ian James and Phillip Jones, who completed the podium after several entertaining battles.

MX1 Expert

Conrad Mewse showed exactly why he remains one of Britain’s elite riders, claiming maximum points in spectacular fashion.

His pace, race craft and ability to find lines around the circuit thrilled spectators throughout the day. Mewse’s jumping displays were equally impressive, becoming the only rider to consistently clear sections that others dared not attempt.
