Sampson shows his strength with Low North Win! Raw Enduro Rock Oil Championship Round 7 – Race Report and Results

After an absence of 2 years due to the pandemic, RAW Enduro was delighted to once again grace Low North Camp Harwood Dale with the Rock oil Championship.

A long-standing agreement with Scarborough and District Motor Club allows Wayne Braybrook the chance to showcase this stunning venue, as well as being a part of the continued use, just once per year for an enduro event. Braybrook knows this land well from his Schoolboy trials days, competing there at just 12 years old in the first-ever SDMC 2 day youth trial.

A technical true enduro lap was created under the watchful eye of the club officials, around 8 minutes for the Youth Short lap, with an average 12 minutes for adults was just perfect for this event.

Heavy rain Saturday made the first half of the youth race a little testing for the smaller wheeled bikes. Jake Hannon did a fantastic job on his 50cc Appleyard Husky, despite the bike overheating requiring a pit stop, Jake went on to take the Auto Class win. Runner up on the day was Joey Jones who did amazing on his CRF50. Bradley Crabtree romped on to another Youth B win, with Theo Nicholson having an awesome battle with his riding pal Jack Houghton to just take second place by exactly one minute. Youth A riders were impressive as always, RAW newcomer Toby Shaw rode the perfect race on his big wheel 85, Hayden Stansfield now on a 150 found the slippery conditions harder to deal with than they might have been on his old lightweight 85. Hayden stuck at it and held on for a great finish.

George England

A Packed adult start saw the Team Steer riders out front from early on, Scott Austin is a name from the past in Enduro, now busy with his daughter racing MX, Scott out training for Skeggy beach race is getting back to form. Lee Sampson took the expert win despite Austin leading for a time, When Sampson’s Sherco stopped towards the end of the race he thought that was a sure DNF, walking away from his stricken bike he saw the Fuel line had been knocked off, an easy fix allowed him to hold on to what was a cool win in the expert class. The Clubman class saw the first 9 riders all finishing on 11 laps, a super close fast pace saw local lad George England take a nice home win on his Mototech KTM, runner up was holeshot hero and professional festival attendee Tommy Grimmer on his Appleyard Beta. William Cawte rolled his 125 Team Steer Sherco to a fine third place just holding off Harry Conner in fourth.

Richard Hallam bossed the Clubman Vets, this class is now seeing more numbers week in week out, for 2022 this will be the fantastic class of vets not quite wanting to run with Experts, but equally much more experience than Sportsman Vets. Nick Barrow sealed his Sportsman Vets Championship year with an awesome win in class, despite still nursing a shoulder injury from two weeks ago. Slumped over his bike at the finish line Barrow has now concluded his 2021 season with a great win.

As the stunning October sunshine and warm temperatures dried large parts of the track, Mark Raynor found his rhythm in the Over50 class, Mark took the win on 10 laps despite Andy Dean pushing hard all race. Ashley Jones enjoyed his weekend on the east coast with his Family, he rounded off with a great third place and trophy plate for the fireplace back in Lancashire.

The sportsman class is hotting up with the top few riders running at a very high pace. Ged Littlewood delivered a belting ride to take the win by almost 5 minutes from Tommy Tate. Third place Sean Thompson now looks forward to a strong finish at the final Round 8 to gain his best Championship result to date. A shakeup in the Novice class saw Ben Holmes winning the class on 9 laps. Zak Khalifa was runner up with Lewis Fairbank grabbing the final podium place.

Toby Shaw

Another awesome fair weekend of Enduro action delivered by the RAW Enduro organisation. Always wanting to see champions crowned by being the best over a mix of terrain, Wayne Braybrook has provided just that in 2021. The BIG Finale takes place on October 24th at the stunning Revesby Estate in Lincolnshire, there a big long track will see a mix of loamy woodland, Fast Grass trails, and flowing grass tracks around the farm complex making up a fantastic final race of the year, we’ll have the bubbly ready folks!!

A huge thank you to Scarborough and District Motor Club for the continued support and trust in RAW Enduro, delivering another sustainable event at this awesome venue. Special thanks to all riders on the day for taking home all litter and some extra Mud!

Mark Raynor
