Final Rock and Roll of 2020 – Raw Enduro Rock Oil Enduro Championship Round 8 – Race Report and Results

RAW Enduro saved the best NEW venue of 2020 until the last round of the 2020 Rock Oil Championship. Months in planning, Allerston in North Yorkshire proved to be a super fast Stubble X event which favoured the MX derived riders over true grit Enduro addicts.

A super wide fast flowing track was created by Clerk of the Course Wayne Braybrook to see some of the closest racing for the final event of the Championship.

Rapid MX rider Kalvin Kelly ripped round to take the Youth A win from another MX hotshot Cristina Palmer, with RAW Regular Hayden Stansfield in third. James Lindsey has held his nerve all season to win the Youth B final race and wrap up the Championship. With Youth riders enjoying almost all the Adult track, only the small woodland was left out of the Kids race. Jake Hannon took P3 on the day to secure the Championship after his nearest rival Harry Crofts KTM imploded again, spoiling his chances of Championship glory.

Onto the Main Adult, after a safety briefing and an extended engine warm up phase the adults were flagged away. Ryan Crowder was hot favourite to win the event on his new EXC350 KTM. Despite a halt mid race to allow the Air Ambulance crew to whisk an injured rider to hospital, Crowder simply picked up on the restart and reeled off fast lap after lap to take the Expert win. Jamie Williams placed in P3 on the day to win the 2020 Expert Championship after season long battles.

Scott Hipwell already Clubman champion was going to move up to expert for the final round. In a last minute twist Scott Stayed Clubman and was only beaten to the line by one other rider. Henry Harman rode out of his skin to take a super well deserved clubman win on the day. Those who know, know exactly what this awesome win meant to the family, well done Henry.

In the Novice Class Ethan Marquiss had bike problems on Saturdays Play day, a quick loan of a bike from Mototech boss George England saw Ethan take his first ever RAW win in the Novice class. Looks like Santa’s list just got bigger!!

Andrew Dean rode a time card event on Saturday before arriving at RAW on Sunday. Andy’s bike fitness is obviously quite good as the popular chap from the North East bagged the class win on Sunday. Chased home by Steve Howes and Mark Richie all the Over 50 class riders had a blast.

James Lindsey

Jonny Bagnall ended his first season in Enduro on a high by taking the Sportsman class win just ahead of the ever improving Josh Knight, Josh’s upgrade to adults was absolutely the right path to take after starting the season in the Youth Ranks. Nick Barrow smashed the Sportsman Vets class win after a great season at RAW, perhaps the tightest class of all the Vets class was a three way run to the flag for overall honours.

Gas Gas specialist John Shirt enjoyed his day battling with old MX top runner Paul McSorley, both riders finished with a big smile on their faces after the fast furious race.

The Injured rider who was airlifted, was discharged from Hospital on Sunday night with no broken bones or lasting injuries.
Overall this final race at a brand new venue saw some brave riding, extra commitment, and above all lots of passion from all riders. Already fully Graded, Allerston will see the next event there very soon as RAW Enduro fire their delayed Northern Enduro Sprint Championship into life at this awesome venue.

Nick Barrow

Thank you to each and every rider and crew, for the support during the craziest year ever since Foot and Mouth disease ripped through the UK. RAW will now focus on keeping the wheels turning through the off season with Sprint Enduro’s, Lots of Play Days at some more new venues, and continuing to keep riders safe as they enjoy the restricted bike time that the current situation allows.
Thanks to all participants for keeping the club moving forward during these very difficult times.
