Another stellar MX Nationals weekend for Askew at Cusses Gorse!
Team GRT headed to Salisbury for the fourth round of the Michelin MX Nationals at Cusses Gorse last weekend. The team pitted all three of our 125cc riders, 85cc rider Bill Askew, and Pro MX2 rider Jamie Carpenter.
Billy Askew had another stellar weekend as he took his 85SX all the way to four wins out of four. Another perfect weekend for Billy, as he tends his championship lead to 55 points, and has now won 18/20 races at the MX Nationals in 2022. He will keep the red plate as we go to a brand new track in Oxfordshire for Round 5.
Our MXY1 125cc riders were out next, in the form of Ollie Colmer, Erez Melman and Joe Brookes.
Colmer, finishing 4th overall on the weekend, struggled to get a good flow going on the track. Paired with some difficult starts against the bigger 250f machines, it was a task to pull through the pack to gain positions. Nevertheless, Ollie still fought hard and walked away on Sunday with two 4th positions in the Moto’s. An improvement on Saturday’s racing, and he is determined to head into next round stronger.
Erez Melman had a steady weekend, clicking off the laps and races, meanwhile not gelling with the track completely. He still managed two top 10 finishes over the weekend though, and had some great battles in the mid pack. He is feeling positive heading into the more sandy tracks as we continue the season.
Brookes got off to an up and down start on Saturday as he felt good going into the races. He unfortunately came together with another rider in race 1 while attempting to pass, but race 2 came back with a 2nd place.
Unfortunately in race 3 on Sunday whilst leading, Joe took a fall over the backside of a jump, causing him to go down injured. Later after being checked out, he had sustained a knee injury. He will go for scans this week to assess the situation, and we hope to see him back soon.
Finally, it was Jamie Carpenter’s turn on Sunday in the Fastest 40 class aboard his GRT Impact KTM 250SXF. Jamie would battle with title competitor Tom Grimshaw all day, and would race to a 4-3 scorecard for 3rd overall. Another podium to add to the tally, with Jamie still sitting in 2nd overall in the Championship, just 17 points down on the leader.
We now take a weekend off racing this weekend, before heading to FatCat Motoparc in Doncaster for another round of the Revo ACU British Championship.
