Throughout the years, the iconic Hawkstone Park motocross circuit has provided the stage for many moments of both joy and despair, which have been firmly etched into the everlasting memory banks of riders, organisers and spectators alike! This coming Sunday, July 5th, it’s the turn of the 2026 AMCA British Motocross Championship contenders to write more Hawkstone headlines as they contest round five of their current series, which is supported by Rokkit Tyres.

So far, the 2026 campaign has produced plenty of exciting and highly competitive action with several of the classes on offer still very much far from being decided and looking more than likely to eventually go right down to the wire and a last-round decider! Typical of just how tight the standings are at present, after 16 motos completed only 14 points separates the Vet’s Over 40’s top two of Jamie Dobson and defending Champion James Lane. So far, KTM-mounted Dobson has taken three overall wins to Lane’s single success, leaving third-placed Lee Martin a further 52 points in arrears. The Vet’s Over 40’s, which is combined with the Over 50’s, Over 60’s and Women’s Championship, has proved to be very entertaining in 2026 with the likes of Sam Callow, Dain Traylor, Matthew Chaplin and Clayton Hogg also right in the mix.
If the Vet’s Over 40’s is tight, a potential winner of the Vet’s Over 50’s appears a whole lot clearer as the classy Phil Mercer has built a big 67-point advantage at the top ahead of defending Champion Simon Lane, who in turn is under intense pressure from Matt Ryder, just a further 3 points behind. With just another two rounds to come after Hawkstone, the current Vet’s Over 60’s Champion looks well on course to put another title in the bag. Having already scored three out of four overall wins, he currently boasts a very nice 68-point lead over Andrew Prosser with Daran Williams in 3rd.

Over in the AMCA Women’s Championship, leader Hannah Jones has scored a very consistent four out of four podium placings. At present she’s 35 points clear of defending Champion Amber McGregor. Also right in the mix is Caitlin Newman, and having also enjoyed a couple of moto wins so far, the Gloucester girl is just a further 2 points behind Amber and still definitely right in contention for glory! Completing the current top ten in the Women’s class are Jaymee Garrood, Ria Truman, Erin Howes, Holly Williams, Sophie Jones, Nadiya Jones and Leonni Tighe. During round four at Lower Drayton, Nadiya, having her first Championship outing of the season, took the overall win.

Producing arguably the star performance at round four, though, was 125cc Championship pilot Ashley Harland. Racing to a quartet of brilliant moto wins at Lower Drayton, Ashley now sits just 18 points off Lee Sealey, who has led the series right from round one. Sealey, having also taken the overall win in the opening three rounds, had to settle for the 3rd step on the Lower Drayton podium after being outscored by fellow title contender Jordan Wright. In what has been a truly super class, at present just a total of 35 points separates Sealey, Harland and Wright, with Aaron Colley a further 26 points in arrears, as Luke Phillips, Patrick Gilligan, Charlie Palmer and Luke Newman are the next best. In the accompanying Youth 125cc class it’s still Oakley Skinner sitting on top despite having to settle for 5th overall last time out. At Lower Drayton it was Toby Adamson taking the win from Ted Bullen, Bobby Watson and Stanley Siebert, the 2025 AMCA BW85cc Champion.
With matching scorecards at Lower Drayton, Tyla Hooley and James Dodd continue to set a very hot pace at the top of the 2026 AMCA Open class standings. Both finished round four on a total of 94 points, which also meant that the gap in the race for the 2026 title still shows Hooley holding a narrow 20-point advantage. In the table, Will Hughes is next best and a further 83 points in arrears ahead of Ryan Crowder, McKenzie Marshall, Josh Waterman, Ben White, and Tyron Cleaver. At Lower Drayton, Marshall bagged a richly deserved podium placing whilst Waterman showed a return to form following injury so it’s going to be interesting to see how both of these lads perform at Hawkstone!
Scoring consecutive MX2 overall wins, Henry Williams has opened up a nice 55-point advantage at the top of the standings. After dropping down to 4th following round three, talented teenager Jayden Jones is back up to 2nd and again chasing Williams. Holding 3rd at present is another super young star, Finley Evans, in his debut AMCA Championship campaign, whilst Lower Drayton mechanical issues have dropped the unlucky Jimmy Margetson down the order. Jimmy, though, has proved consistently that he’s extremely fast on sand tracks and will certainly be looking to claw back some of those lost points with a podium-topping performance at Hawkstone on Sunday! In MX2, season after season Lee Truman has been ultra-consistent and he currently sits 5th in the Championship table with Yarin Evans, Ray Rowson, Jack Evans and Luke Meredith next up. Having now recovered from a broken arm, Luke Dean looks set to return to AMCA MX2 Championship action at Hawkstone and last year he took the overall win in the Shropshire sand!
Four out of four podiums, including three victories, have helped cement George Clarke’s position as leader of the Clubman Seniors class. Although Clarke has won eight motos along his route to the top, Leighton Price, Callum Radford, Ayjay Simpson, Max Monk and Charlie Ludwell have also enjoyed the honour of scoring a race victory, proving that they are also still in the mix! In the standings, Clarke holds a 61-point lead over Ludwell, who in turn has Monk for very close company and just a further 5 points behind. With Jack Hollis and Mackenzie Tranter next up in the standings, Callum Radford, having sat out the Lower Drayton event due to a hip injury, could return to action at Hawkstone.
Clubman Juniors have seen moto wins for Charlie Osborne, Bobby Turner, Lewis Day, Charlie Early, John Cox and Lewis Perks. At round four it was Perks taking the overall win, a result which leaves him just 20 points behind series leader Osborne. At present Cox, Benjamin Prosser, Oliver Woodhouse and Bobby Turner complete the top six.
Three out of four overall wins and maximum points in the last two rounds at Brookthorpe and Lower Drayton see Mason Brown top the BW85cc class. At present, Will Kremmer, Byron Wheldon and Jimmy Whiston are the next best. Holding a massive advantage at the top of the SW85cc standings, that title hunt looks to be a clear shoot-out between Aaron Mercer and Oliver Moore, who are currently separated by just 30 points. Meanwhile, the final class for 65cc pilots sees Harvey Wood comfortably in control and 128 points better off than Cohen Llewellyn, with Harlee Duffy in 3rd.
So, get along to Hawkstone Park, SY4 4NA, situated near Market Drayton in Shropshire and watch some very exciting racing as riders go in search of AMCA glory. The action should be underway by around 11am, with admission charges set at Adults £10, OAP’s £5 and Children under 16 FREE when accompanied by a paying adult.
