Torq Moto with Mark Jones – Part Two

Torq Moto with Mark Jones - Part Two

Following the first instalment two weeks ago, Mark Jones is back for more chat on the Torq Moto Podcast show with hosts ‘Jeffro’ Perrett and DocWob.

In this second and final episode of his interview Mark looks back on the latter part of his racing career and how a run of niggling injuries, the limited wrist movement, not gelling with certain bikes and then the birth of his children made him realise it was time to hang up his boots and helmet and turn his hand to something else…pulling pints!

Yep, that’s right. When his racing days were done, Jonesy became a pub landlord. Something he didn’t regret, but both Wobs and Jeffro did for not visiting his establishment to sink a few with Mark, because he’s always been good value on having a laugh.

Talking of which, they couldn’t let Mark leave without asking about his days riding for Steve Dixon’s then Yamaha team and being teammates with Billy Mackenzie and Jason Higgs, and the inevitable mayhem of those three together!

Of course, Mark couldn’t stay away from motocross for too long and soon started coaching riders close to home in the valleys of South Wales, which he still does. In fact, he had to rush back to do some coaching after this very episode. As one of the best motocross riders to ever come from Wales, it’s great that he’s passing his knowledge onto the future generations and maybe when he gets a new hip or two, we’ll see Jonesy back on track racing again at the VMXdN Foxhill and Farleigh Castle Vets MX and reminding us all of his days as a factory HRC Honda rider.
