Wet conditions made the track tricky and demanding for round 3 of the South Eastern Evo’s, round 4 of the NGR over 30’s, plus races for experts and juniors, but credit to the club, marshals and to the riders for completing the meeting.

The overall winner in the evo’s group, sponsored by Stebbings Car Superstore, was Brett Fisher, with two race wins and a second place. Steve Bixby was runner up in the first leg after passing both Jason Morland and Jon Barfoot, and Morland chased Fisher home in race two, with Barfoot holding off Bixby to claim 3rd place. Bixby took the win in race 3, with Fisher finishing well clear of Barfoot, to claim the overall win. Morland took his 500cc KTM to 4th place, just ahead of a fast finishing Alex Hornsby.

Current NGR leader, Tim Clark, led race one of the NGR’s, but his main rival in the championship, Will Kerry, took his Husqvarna to the front for the win. Clark looked good for 2nd place until local rider, Robert Baldry, made a late charge to claim 2nd spot. Race two saw Kerry and Clark battling at the front, and again it was Kerry who took the win. John Hinz took his Yamaha to 3rd place, with Richard Roper holding off the challenge of Aaron Smith to claim his 2nd fourth place finish. The third NGR race saw Clark and Kerry swapping the lead several times, and a determined Clark took the win. Roper came home in 3rd place after a race long scrap with Baldry and Mark Goodson.

The premier class experts were joined by the fastest 15 junior riders from timed practise, and the star of the day was Honda’s Lewis Tombs, who took all three race wins. Local ace, Luke Parker, gave Tombs a hard time though, and was never far away from the Honda’s rear wheel in all three moto’s. Declan Whittle was 3rd overall with a couple of 2nd places, plus a 4th position, and Ben Cole rode well to a 3rd, and two 4th places for 4th overall. South African, Brad Woodroffe, rode consistently for 5th on the day, with 15 year old Bayliss Utting, racing as an expert for the first time, claimed 6th overall. The 3rd premier class race also saw Luke Parker becoming the first recipient of the new Dennis Slaughter Challenge Trophy, as he was the first Vikings club member to finish.

It was a poignant moment for the young star, as the late Dennis Slaughter did so much to help his career in his earlier racing years.

Archie Fisher topped the juniors in the premier class, with three good rides, along with Connor Bunkle, who pushed hard each time. Gareth Lane was 3rd overall. Veteran Gary Hoptrough had a dnf following a tyre problem in the first race, but was the first junior finisher in the other two legs, resulting in 5th overall, behind another former expert, Tim Warnes

In the group A supports, Craig Heslop won race one from Tim Rose, however, Rose revelled in the wet conditions to take victory in the other two legs for the overall win. Joseph Hall rode well for 2nd on the day, two points better than Heslop, with teenager, Harry Smith taking 4th place.

Henry Rogers, with two wins and a second place, won the B group supports, although Joe Scillitoe pushed Rogers in all three races. Josh Smith took his KTM to 3rd overall, and Fynn Ellis was the overall victor in group C, ahead of Toby Souchotte and James Day. Jack Whitlam had easily won the first two moto’s, but was promoted to the A group 3rd race, therefore not figuring in the overall results.
