Steve Holcombe has been forced to withdraw from the 2026 FIM 6DAYS Enduro of Nations in Portugal after a wrist issue brought his season to an early end.
The multiple Enduro World Champion had been due to represent Great Britain as part of the Men’s Trophy Team at the 100th edition of the event, but will instead undergo surgery on his left wrist before turning his attention to recovery and preparations for 2027.
Team GB confirmed Holcombe’s withdrawal, with a replacement for the Men’s Trophy squad set to be announced shortly.
Holcombe explained that the problem is unrelated to riding and, following discussions with his team and Sherco, the decision was made to stop racing rather than continue through the final part of the season.
Writing on social media, Holcombe said:
“Bummed that my 2026 racing plans have been put on hold.
“I have an issue with my left wrist, unrelated to riding, that requires surgery to fix.
“After discussing it together with my team and Sherco, we’ve made the decision to stop racing for now, have the surgery and focus fully on recovery and preparing for the 2027 season. I really appreciate the support and understanding from everyone at Team Sherco_Ch Racing and Sherco Official, as always.
“Unfortunately, this means I’ll miss the final Italian Assoluti race and I’ve also had to withdraw from Team GB for this year’s ISDE.
“It’s not the way I wanted my 2026 season to end, but I’ll get it fixed, focus on recovery and be back at it soon.
“See you in 2027. 🇬🇧”
The withdrawal is a significant late change for Team GB ahead of Portugal, with Holcombe having been looking forward to pulling on the British colours once again.
Men’s and Junior Team Manager Joe Wootton said:
“It’s really disappointing to lose Steve, especially knowing how much he was looking forward to representing Team GB again. But, his health has to come first, and we wish him a speedy recovery. We still have a very strong Men’s Trophy Team, and I’m fully confident in the riders we have heading to Portugal.”
Team GB will now finalise its revised Men’s Trophy line-up, with Holcombe’s replacement due to be confirmed shortly.
Despite losing one of its most experienced riders, the team remains confident in the squad heading to Portugal for the landmark 100th edition of the FIM 6DAYS Enduro of Nations.
