Ria rocks at Brookthorpe! 2025 AMCA British Motocross Championship - Race Report & Results

With the UK enjoying a lengthy spell of recent hot, dry weather, preparing a motocross track to get good race conditions and pretty much nullify the threat of that dust menace is indeed never an easy task! So, with the AMCA British Motocross Championship visiting Brookthorpe for round three of its 2025 series, there was to be only one ideal person to deliver the goods! Step forward and take a bow, Mike Truman and your hardworking team, getting the prep absolutely spot on, thus ensuring another terrific weekend of AMCA action as the title chase reached its midway point.

Race Report and Images by Mike Wood

First out on that Brookthorpe track was the fast and furious combined Open/MX2 class, and in his usual cool and efficient manner, FUS Marsh Honda rider James Dodd, celebrating his 36th birthday, was to ultimately extend his Championship lead. In this mixed contest, though, Dodd and his fellow 450F riders certainly did not have it all of their own way as those high-flying, fast MX2 pilots were to continually be right in the mix throughout the entire weekend! Indeed, in the opening moto of round three, it was to be a 250F steered by Dodd’s FUS teammate Henry Williams, who is also the MX2 Championship class leader, who was to take the win. Although Doddy had led for five laps, Henry took control with four circuits remaining as Jayden Ashwell, Josh Waterman, Adam Wells, James Bates, Will Hughes and Jack Timms all started round three strongly. Earlier in the race, another MX2 ace, Luke Dean, had been holding 4th before crashing hard and dropping down to 10th.

Henry Williams the MX2 winner

Thankfully, Luke was able to come to the line for moto two and, showing no ill effects, he produced a stormer getting home in a fantastic 2nd just behind winner Dodd as all of the opening race pacesetters mentioned above were again right on it! Despite injuries sustained during the previous Bromsberrow round, Luke Meredith was not only surprising competing at round three but also really mixing it up inside the top ten along with the impressive, hard-charging SRH KTM MX2 mounted Yarin Evans.

Adam Wells 4th in the Open Class

Incredibly in what was a highly competitive class, the first clash on Sunday then produced an absolute carbon copy of the moto two result with Dodd putting another 25 Championship points on the board as he headed home Dean, Ashwell, Waterman and Williams who had been forced to haul himself through the pack after starting down in 15th. That results pattern did, though, change in the last clash of the weekend as Dodd rounded off a very profitable round three by again being first past the chequered flag, chased by that dynamic MX2 trio of Williams, Dean and Waterman, along with Hughes, Wells, Bates and Evans in tow. For most of this moto, CPMX Racing ace Waterman had been very hot on the heels of Williams before crashing in the closing stages!

Wyatt McGregor(79) and Luke Newman in great 125cc action

Proving that he is definitely right back in the winning groove, AMCA 125cc Champion Jimmy Margetson on the AJP KTM stormed to another super maximum points score at Brookthorpe. The only rider to get ahead of Jimmy all weekend was Wildcard Paul Neale, renowned for his very fast starting, Paul briefly led moto two. In the main 125cc class, Wyatt McGregor of the Midwest Racing team was to eventually take the overall runners-up slot. Throughout the entire meeting, Wyatt had earned his points the hard way, regularly battling with Neale, Luke Newman and another Wildcard, Simon Booth, in some terrific tussles.

Ollie Jewitt the 125cc Youth runner up

Over in the Youth 125cc series, first round winner Linc Hasted had failed to score at Bromsberrow last time out, but he then bounced back in the best way possible at Brookthorpe by taking the overall win. After being the first Youth 125cc rider home in the opening two motos, Linc was defeated by Oliver Bebb in moto three. Then in the final clash, Linc had to work overtime for his points by coming from 21st up to 10th with a storming ride. Taking 2nd overall in the 125cc Youth competition was current series leader Ollie Jewitt, who produced another strong, consistent quartet of motos whilst Woz Boyce, Ted Bullen, Ryan Jackson, Jack Bullock and Harley Piper all scored big points.

Sean Smout the BW85 runner up

Having reeled off a perfect eight moto wins in the BW85cc series so far, Stanley Siebert’s unbeaten record came to a halt when his bike seized in the opening race at Brookthorpe. With Siebert missing, instead it was a quartet of high-quality Wildcards who dominated the moto as Ollie Waters took the win from Arthur Moore, Jett Gardiner and very fast young Lady Mylie Evans. Forced to jump aboard his spare machine, Siebert was up and running again in moto two but had to settle for third as J.L Cox supported rider Waters scorched to another win from Moore with Gardiner, Sean Smout and Evans next up.

SW85cc winner Jett Gardiner

With Waters not competing on day two, Moore took the first win before Siebert finished the weekend with a victory after producing a last-lap pass on Moore. In the BW85cc contest, Moore, though, still took top slot from Smout and Aston Whitehead, enjoying a second successive podium placing, with Siebert having to settle for 4th. For the SW85cc class, Gardiner was to be a deserved victor as he was joined on the podium by the girl power that is the very impressive Evans and series leader Freddie Smith. Throughout the event, the young 85cc riders certainly produced plenty of top action on the spectacular Brookthorpe circuit, the only downside being a nasty crash in qualifying for BW85cc rider Alfie Pincher, who had been holding 3rd in the series. Get well soon, Alfie!

Jamie Dobson the Vets O40’s runner-up

Going into Sunday’s event, Jamie Dobson and James Lane had been locked together at the top of the Vets O40’s standings with 180 points apiece. And at Brookthorpe, Dobson and Lane were really on it and producing a titanic tussle, joined by Vets O50’s leader Simon Lane, Christopher Elcock, Will Payne and co. The first two mixed Vets motos saw a very determined Dobson score narrow wins ahead of the Lane brothers, with Payne in 4th and Dain Traylor, Rich Meakin, Sam Callow and Lee Martin also right in the mix.

Dobson was again in contention for another win in Sunday’s opening clash before falling a dropping back to 6th as James Lane was first past the chequered flag. In the last one, normal Brookthorpe service was resumed as James Lane won a thriller after swapping positions with Simon Lane and Dobson, as Payne, John Butler, and Meakin rounded out the top six. So, in the competitive Vets O40’s it was podiums for James Lane, Dobson and Traylor, the O50’s featured Simon Lane, Elcock and Ste Marlow with Brian Staples bagging another O60’s first place trophy ahead of Paul Blick and Nigel Reed.

Seniors Clubman winner Callum Radford

Having been forced to sit out the first two rounds of the series, local lad Callum Radford returned in style to take the Clubman’s Seniors overall win at Brookthorpe. In what is always a very competitive class, Radford and George Mitchell scored a brace of moto wins apiece. Young Radford, though, backed up his wins with a strong couple of second places, whilst Mitchell’s chances of the overall had all but disappeared in the opening race of the weekend when finishing right down in 24th. For Clubman Seniors series leader Michael Harbage, it was to be another very productive round, taking 2nd overall and also nicely increasing his Championship advantage.

In the Clubman’s Juniors, though, it’s all change at the top with Benjamin Prosser jumping up from 4th to become the new series leader as Lewis Day, who had been in charge of proceedings, failed to score at Brookthorpe. At round three, Leighton Price was the top Junior home in all four motos as Prosser took the overall runners-up trophy with Jack Breakwell in 3rd. Indeed, Price was excellent value for that overall win as he certainly mixed it up in this combined Seniors/Juniors contest. Starting with 6/10 placings on day one, he was right on the gas for Sunday’s racing, recording a superb 2/3 scorecard.

Mylie Evans the SW85cc runner up

With current AMCA Women’s Champion and 2025 title pacesetter Grace Richards a non-starter at Brookthorpe, Midwest Racing pilot Amber McGregor is the new series leader. On day one, Libby Chatburn took both of the wins ahead of Ria Truman, McGregor and Holly Williams, with Erin Howes, Caitlin Newman and Hannah Jones also right in the mix.

On the second day of action, Chatburn, despite taking part in free practice, did not then compete in the racing, so it was over to Truman. In storming fashion, Ria romped to victory, chased home by McGregor, with Howes and Williams the next best. So, on the podium, it was a delighted Truman claiming the top step, joined by McGregor and Williams. Well done, Ria!
