PREVIEW: Compass Cup Ready to Blast Off at Mildenhall!

Many of the country’s best Youth riders, with a sprinkling of fine Adult Experts and Veterans too, will take to the soft terrain of Mildenhall in Cambridgeshire this weekend in a two-day event well worth checking out!

Words: Ben Rumbold, Images: Ian Bassett

The Compass Cup is an ACU inter-team event with seven clubs each fielding 40 riders across 8 classes, hosted by last year’s winner Kensworth Schoolboy MX Club where they will run #1 to #5 in each class.

The Compass Cup is growing in popularity and should feature some stunning racing this year!

They will be challenged by Mid-Sussex MXC, Norfolk & Suffolk JMCC, Cheshire North West SSC, East Kent SSC, Peterborough JMC, and GEST Hastings MCC.

The Vets class looks fairly open with the home team fielding Steve Bixby among its riders, but the rest will be giving chase!

The Adult Open sees the in-form Max Smith racing for the home team but the rapid SR75 Suzuki of Ben Harrison will be on his case for Cheshire North West, as will the 723 Racing Fantic of Leon Ongley for the GEST Hastings team!

The Youth Open sees a particular strong squad for the Cheshire team with British Championship runner-up Mackenzie Marshall teamed alongside AX Futures Champion Joel Fisher.

Youth 125cc riders include British Championship regular Levi Saunders out for East Kent, and the Corke twins Max & George should also have a say in the matter for GEST Hastings.

The BW85 class sees Kensworth wheel out the big guns with Jack Leese, Blake Ward-Clarke & Travis Bixby joining the fray, whilst Alfie Geddes-Green should be a force for Norfolk & Suffolk while Harry Lee, Weston Beach Race runner-up in this class, rides for GEST Hastings on his Dirt Store KTM.

The camaraderie is there to be enjoyed at Mildenhall this weekend!

It’s competitive all round in the SW85s as the home team field Riley-Ray Barrow and Chad Prince, whilst Chase Panter and Tommie Perfect line-up for Norfolk & Suffolk and recent AX Fest winner Olivia Reynolds guns for the boys in Peterborough colours alongside Alfie Malins and Danny Jemal!

The Junior 65 class sees AX65 runner-up John Slade for the home team take on East Kent’s strong team of Teddy Merriman and Dylan Standing, while Finlee Pope is also one to watch for Peterborough JMC.

Finally, the Auto class will be the last on track and see AX Fest winner Austin Edwards race for Kensworth against the likes of Austin Senior for GEST Hastings, but there could be any number of them in the mix for that one!

Yours truly will be on the microphone (reporting from the paddock as I write!) and the atmosphere is buzzing for a cracking weekend of racing. Two blocks each day Saturday and Sunday, plus a silent Disco for kids, and then later for the grown-ups, on Saturday night. It’s gonna be a corker!

Mildenhall MotoPark is found on postcode IP28 8QL.  Spectator entry is FREE!
