One up for Wells! Acerbis Amateur Nationals – Race Report and Results

It’s been a longer wait than expected but finally, we managed to get pitched up in a field, the gates were dropped and some top class Motocross happened at the legendary Farleigh Castle circuit. Darren and his Acerbis Nationals team did an incredible job in keeping everyone social distanced and masks on allowing us to do what we love most on a weekend.

The Manchester Xtreme Junior Open category were the first to hit the track and Billy Saunders showed everyone how to tackle the grassy hillside as he romped to five wins from five starts and stood on the top step on Sunday evening. It was all about consistency for the runner up overall and it was Tyson Jones who took home the runner up spot some 29 points off Saunders. Marcus Booker finished third with Tom Marsh and Lewis Davison grabbing the remaining trophies for the weekend.

Jane Daniels

It was the LS2 helmets Vets Over 40 mixed with the Pro Green sponsored Ladies class that were next to sample the North Somerset dirt with Danny Blakeley dominating the weekend with five wins but he didn’t have it all his own way as Barry Gray gave him a run for his money all weekend but had to settle for runner up this time around. Craig Chamberlain was in the mix as well grabbing a second behind Blakeley in moto two keeping him in the hunt until the end eventually finishing third overall.

It was good to see a solid turn out for the Ladies and Kathryn Booth was a woman on a mission as she took 4 from 5 race wins and a second race third to give her the honours overall. Cath King has put in the hard work in the off time and it shows, a second moto win and four runner ups behind Booth gave her second overall on the weekend showing she means business for 2021. Rebecca Newman capitalised on last race mistakes by former series champ Nadiya Jones to claim third on the rostrum on the tie breaker.

Paul Coward

In the 250 Open 2 Stroke sponsored by MX Dreams California Joe Jones had the most consistent weekend with three wins, a second and a third edging out last years champ Adam Harris by eight points. Harris managed to take a moto win however and take a fairly comfortable runner up ahead of Lee Harrison who was always in the mix inside the top five, eventually taking home third overall. Brad Wheeler claimed the other win of the weekend for fourth overall and Ryan Butler took fifth.

The Moto Connection 125 class had ex British and GP rider Nev Bradshaw on the line which added to the already stacked class. Bradshaw proved consistency was the key and the South African actually took the overall without winning a moto surprisingly and headed a Yamaha 1-2-3 on the podium. Stu Owen took two of the race wins and came up two points short of the overall with British Masters 125 top runner Jordan Bachelor taking the lower step of the podium also taking a pair of wins. Jonathan Roderick was the other race winner to help him to fourth overall after a solid weekend of racing.

It doesn’t matter what class he goes in or the conditions, Brian Wheeler always manages to show everyone around and take home maximum points this time in the Roberts Plant Engineering Vets Over 50 class aboard his CPS Husqvarna. He dominated the weekend, even having no goggles from the second lap of moto 3 couldn’t stop him from taking victory. Chris Brown made his debut on a KTM after taking the title last year on Honda and claimed the runner up spot ahead of Paul Willis who took home third.

Brian Wheeler

Another big name took top honours in the Craigs Motorcycles MX2 class as World MX2 rider Tom Grimshaw came for a weekend racing with dad Dave who was competing in the Over 50 class. The Chambers Husqvarna rider took four from five wins but an issue on the start of moto 4 meant a clean sweep went out the window. Olly Jones fought hard all weekend and ended as runner up just a handful of points ahead of Mitchell Meadows who got the holeshot in moto 4 and rode a smart race to take the win. Travis Steels and Brett Revell rounded off the top five.

James Wilkinson

Last up were the Paradise MX Holidays MX1 class and Adam Wells was the man to take the honours overall with a couple of wins, a couple of seconds and a third on his KTM. Irishman Scott Hamilton took the very wet third race victory to help him to runner up overall on his debut in the class after moving up from MX2. Cory McShane took his two stroke KTM to third overall ahead of Corey Hockey in fourth and 2019 MX1 runner up Ed Briscoe finished the weekend in fifth place overall.
