Hot like Mustoe! Coventry JMX Wroxton Open Meeting – Race Report and Results

The gates were dropped for CJMX at Wroxton this weekend. This year has been one to forget with regards to any kind of championship due to Covid but once the CJMX members knew there was a race they were all raring to go.

With a perfect track, perfect weather and full line ups the day was set to be one to remember….even if it meant having to wear a mask and wave hello rather than a handshake.

Luke Houghton MX1

Out first to set the lines for the day were the MX1/MX2 class. In race 1 Edward Briscoe took an early lead with Luke Houghton hot on his heels, Drew Anderson was not letting the leaders get away and upped his game to pass both and take the win. Race 2 was a similar scenario. In the last race of the day Aaron Patstone was on fire, led the race from start to finish. Briscoe came in 2nd with Jordan Wright taking 3rd. Anderson tried his hardest to catch the leaders but a few mistakes meant he finished in 7th position.

The full clubman class were ready and raring to get of the start next. Race 1 Scott Bates made a comeback and took the win, James Herring was not far behind for 2nd and Dan Grimshaw finished in 3rd. In race 2 James Herring made light work to finish in 1st, Daniel Marshall took 2nd, Grimshaw 3rd. Race 3 and Herring was back out front again and finished by some margin. Dean Hakes had a good race for the 2nd position with Marshall who finished in 3rd.

Chuck Davies MX2

In the youth race Jamie Wilson was on great form and took all 3 race wins. The battles were had in each race for the 2nd and 3rd positions, Kayde Rayns, Leon Ongley, Joshua Bassett and Callum Baldwin all pushed each other which made for some nail-biting racing.

The smallest riders were up next, Jamie Currie had a solid day and took all 3 race wins, followed by Zach white. Seth Golding, Stan Lewis and Kaden Pargetter each took home a 3rd position. Some great battles throughout the class especially the 2 girls Ava Peedle and Caitlyn Cone.

Joel Winstanley dominated the junior 65 class that were out next. No rider could even catch him, let alone pass him! There were some exciting moments with the 2nd and 3rd position, 3 riders who rode exceptionally well and pushed each race Jenson Severn, Alfie Geddes-Green and Jack Leese.

Small Wheel 85 start with Chester Hyde 57, Drew Stock 18, Harley Prickett 22

A good line up of Small wheel 85 riders took to the gates next. Drew Stock took an early lead in race 1 but with a puncture on the last lap dropped to 3rd with Chester Hyde taking 1st and Harley Prickett 3rd. Race 2 and Stock was back out front, Hyde was chasing him down and piling the pressure on until he dropped it, meaning Stock took the win, Hyde managed to get upright quick enough to stay in 2nd with Prickett taking the 3rd spot again. Last race and this time Hyde was out front with Stock chasing him down, Stock made a mistake in a rut and was passed by Harrison Schofield who took 2nd with Stock 3rd.

Ben Mustoe was the one to watch in the Big wheel class, stayed consistent all day and took all 3 race wins. Joey Benfield and Joel Fisher were playing cat and mouse all day with Benfield going 2-3-3 and Fisher 3-2-2.

The Vets class were up next, Luke Kennett put on an impressive performance taking all 3 wins of the day. Tom Chesterman came away with 2nd in races 1 and 2. Paul Willis took the 2nd position in race 3. Adam Batchelor put in a determined ride to finish 3rd in race 3 with Daniel Deacon taking 3rd in the final 2 races.

The last race of the day were the sweet-sounding Evo and twinshock class. Todd Richie who was double entering in this class aswell as the MX2 race pulled away from the competition and took 2 out of the 3 wins. Steve Stutt had a bag or mixed results going 2-3-1. Dean Stutt also had a fairly consistent day finishing 3-2-2.
