Heyman in hot form at Rhynie! 2026 Scottish Motocross Championship Round 4 - Race Report & Results

The 2026 Scottish Motocross Championship continued with Round 4 at Rhynie Motocross circuit, which delivered a thrilling weekend of Scottish Motocross as the riders battled the elements as well as each other.

Race Report and Images by Madmaxmedia

Deep ruts, downhill jumps and a slick set of whoops made for a technical track that kept the riders on their toes. The sunshine managed to break through at times, as the classic weather of “four seasons in one day” tried its best to dampen the spirits. Even with some light drizzle and the odd shower, the track needed watering!

Pro Start

Charlie Heyman showed why he is one of the most exciting prospects in the UK right now. He dominated the MX2 class with three commanding wins. Leading from the front every race, he almost matched the times of the top 3 MX1 riders, pushing them all the way in the combined MX1/MX2 Pro race.

Tristan Purdon

Glen McCormack maintained intensity every race with three second‑place finishes, while Jack Meara grabbed a deserved podium place with a great consistent ride. Robbie Scott had his best result of the season as he stayed ahead of Frazer Norrie, and Lewis Hall must’ve felt hard done by after a first-corner pile-up in the second race, which resulted in a DNF as he was just getting to grips with changing from his 2-stroke to a KXF250. He had two great 3rd places, bouncing back in the third race after getting out of the gate well in race 1.

Bobby Bruce

MX1 – Purdon’s Persistency Pays Off – Pro MX1 (Sponsored by Safe Access Highland Ltd)

Topping the times in qualifying, Ben Edwards looked like a good bet for the overall, but Tristan Purdon was always going to challenge that, and he did in Races 1 and 2. It was a strong display but at a cost. His 450 developed a problem, and he had to borrow a bike from a Vet rider for Race 3.

Ben Edwards

Not only was he unfamiliar with the bike, but he also wasn’t actually sure who the benevolent rider was that gave him the bike! His 4th place in race 3 was enough to finish 2 points ahead of Edwards. Had it not been for Bobby Bruce’s race 3 win, Edwards might have grabbed the overall, but Bruce did what he did at round 3 and secured the final podium place with the last race win. Bruce got stronger as the day went on, and it showed with the last race win. The premier class always delivers the fireworks as Jason Meara, Calton Husband, and Ross Rutherford completed the top six after a fiercely competitive set of motos.

Kerridge Unstoppable – Autos (Sponsored by FXR)

It was a heartwarming sight to see such a busy gate as the youngest racers opened the weekend with a brilliant three‑moto showdown. Louie Kerridge was unstoppable, sweeping all three races for a perfect 75‑point maximum. Behind him, the battle for the podium was fierce, with Jack Jamieson, Alex Wilson, and Caelan Wilson all finishing tied on 60 points—Jamieson taking second on the better race result in race 5 finishing second. Ollie Smillie and Ralph Khamouli rounded out the top six after strong rides in the pack.

Alexander Again – 65’s (Sponsored by FXR)

The 65’s delivered one of the tightest results and impressive rides of the weekend. Although Josh Alexander DNF’d in race 4, he earned the 9 points he needed to edge out Haiden Milne after they finished dead‑level on 109 points. It would have been a great overall for Milne, but he narrowly missed out. Ollie Hain kept himself in the mix all weekend for third with two great 2nd places on the Sunday. Oliver Fenton was the best of the rest as Lachlan James and Dexter Morgan filled out the top six after consistent scoring across all five motos. With Katie Beecroft out due to injury and Ellik Miller leaving after finishing in 2nd in race 1, Alexander is running away with the championship.

Rutherford Returns – Small Wheel 85s

A flawless performance from Lyall Rutherford saw him dominate with five straight wins—125 points and a commanding championship statement. Behind him, Liam Hannah got better with each race, securing second place in the last three races, beating Aiden Anton by 1 point. Anton looked like he was going to have his best round, kicking off with two second places, but a poor third race limited his chances. Jack Heath pushed hard all weekend as Harris Curran and Finlay Hoskisson completed the top six after a tight mid‑pack battle.

Barrack Battles Black –  Big Wheel 85s

The BW85 class always serves up some thrilling racing. Baili Black looked like he was on for a solid overall with two race wins, but Ricky Barrack had other ideas. Blacks bike problems in race three meant Barrack had the upper hand, but he had to work for it. His determined, consistent riding earned him a 109‑point tally. Black couldn’t overhaul Barrack in race 4, and even a faultless race 5 win couldn’t beat Barrack’s total as his solid second put him in the top spot. Alfie Lawrie grabbed a race win in race 3, showing he has the pace, but he had to settle for the overall third. James McCann, Ben Alexander and Vinnie Anderson rounded out the top six after some intense but impressive racing through heavy traffic when the 85SW was combined on Sunday.

Anderson on top – Youth 125/250 (Sponsored by Stirlings Powersports)

Jaden Anderson was unstoppable, taking all three wins for a perfect 75‑point haul. Behind him, Kian McGill and Zak Hendry tied on 62 points; it was great to see such hard-fought racing, with McGill edging out Hendry, who has had a great season so far. Dylan Thorndick, Chad Prince, and Tyler Mearns completed the top six after a day of impressive racing.

Youth Start

Piggford Perfect

Another clean sweep—Andrew Piggford dominated the 250 class with three wins. Samuel Logan kept him honest with three second‑place finishes, while Grigor Wright’s third in race 3 edged out the competition. Patrick Woodside, Bradlee Walker, and Niko Clark filled out the top six after a competitive day.

Pohlen Shines – 2‑Stroke 150

The 150cc two‑stroke class saw Andrew Pohlen take a perfect 75‑point maximum. Lewis Farrow and Louis Perrin‑Brown battled hard for the remaining podium spots, with the experienced vet proving age is just a number. Tony Cadman, Sean Adams, and John Bennett completed the top six.

Henderson Dominates – 2‑Stroke Open

Alex Henderson not only dominated with three wins, but he also gave everyone a real treat. The young Irishman made the most of his weekend, impressing not only his comrades but anyone watching. Another vet who put in an impressive performance was Frazer Norrie, who beat Gavin Scott by 2 points to complete the podium after strong rides, while David Anderson, Dylan Kerr, and Shaun Wilson fought for the top six positions.

Alex Henderson

Irwin Impresses – Adult Support

The adult support race brings out the best in some riders when they get the chance to pit themselves against the track and their fellow riders from all classes. The two-race format is a smash and grab and sees riders of all abilities do battle. Charley Irwin showed the entire field just what he is capable of with two easy wins. David Plank eased himself into the weekend with a confident ride, and Colin McLuckie did enough to stay well ahead of the chasing pack.

Stewart’s Sublime – Vets Over 40

George Stewart put on another dominant display in round 4, winning all three motos. Kevin McBride and Craig Hutchison tied on 60 points, but McBride’s 2nd place in the final race was enough to edge out his rival. Leon Murray’s two third places couldn’t get him on the podium due to a poor result in race 1. Alan Scott and Ronnie Donald completed the top six.

Gray Solidifies Championship – Vets Over 50

Another perfect score—Barry Gray dominated the Over‑50s with three wins. Gordon Morrison returned to racing with his customary hole-shot, and he showed the field a clean pair of heels on the first lap of race 1, but he would be overhauled by Grey in each race. He did his best to keep the pressure on with three second‑place finishes. Another pair who landed on the same points, Jackie Munro and Tommy Drysdale, fought for the final podium place with Munro beating the series sponsor with the better race 3 result. Morton Hannah and Ian Ross completed the top six.

Winthrop Continues Winning Form – Vets Over 60

Another clean sweep for Les Winthrop, who controlled all three motos. Ian Wilson and Stephen Pollock finished the three motos in the same race order.

Cadman Takes Control – Amateur (Sponsored by Drysdales Motorcycles)

Tony Cadman shook off the competition as he made up for his poor opening race start. He gained the overall with two race wins, edging out Ross Graham, whose 3,2,2 was not quite enough. Ruairi Grimes grabbed the final podium spot ahead of Matty Bruce, even though he had bagged the win in race 1 with a confident ride. Evan Deans and Patrick Woodside filled out the top six after a day of tight racing.

Tony Cadman

Ingram Incredible – Expert (Sponsored by Drysdales Motorcycles)

Ryan Ingram was flawless, sweeping all three motos for a perfect 75. His lap times would have seen him run in the top 10 of the Pro races! Behind him, David Anderson and Logan Hendry fought hard for podium positions. Hendry got the reward for his hard charge in race 2, coming from almost dead last to 4th place. He pipped Andrew Pohlen after they both finished on 58 points, but Hendry’s 2nd in the last race gave him the bragging rights. Gavin Scott and Dylan Kerr’s battling display earned them the final top six positions.

The next round of The Scottish Championship will be at Clayshant Motocross (near Stranraer) on 1st and 2nd August.
