Herlings & Mewse land Lyng wins! Revo ACU British Motocross Championships Round 2 – Race Report & Results

The second stop of the 2021 season for the Revo ACU British Motocross Championship Fuelled by Gulf Race Fuels took place at the sandy circuit of Cadders Hill in Lyng. With a strong lineup across all classes and a number of podium GP riders competing, it provided first-class racing for the spectators who were welcomed back following the covid restriction changes.

In the Big Wheel 85cc class there were some epic battles had throughout the pack during both motos and certainly gave everyone on site and at home watching on the live stream some entertainment on this sunny Sunday. Taking the opening moto win was Harrison Greenough followed very closely, just 1.024 difference by Tyla Hooley. Second moto saw a completely different leader with Tyla Hooley taking the honours, giving Hooley the overalls for the day. Harrison Greenough ended the day in second followed by Ben Mustoe, Billy Askew and Gyan Doensen.

The 125cc and 250cc class saw some action-packed racing across the two motos at Cadders Hill with the Phoenix Tools Apico Kawasaki rider Sam Atkinson taking the 250cc honours in the opening moto and the Cab Screens Crescent Yamaha rider Joe Brookes taking the chequered for the 125cc class. The overall combined results for the opening race was Sam Atkinson in first, Tyler Westcott taking second, Joe Brookes taking third with Jack Lindsay and Alfie Jones rounding out the top five. Second moto saw Alfie Jones take the chequered flag for the 250cc class and Bailey Johnston for the 125cc class. Taking the overall in the 125cc class at Lyng was Bailey Johnston, followed by Ollie Colmer, James Barker, Leon Ongley and Jak Taylor. In the 250cc class Sam Atkinson took the top spot on the podium followed by Alfie Jones in second, Tyler Westcott in third, Jack Lindsay and Oliver Cole your fourth and fifth place riders.

The Hitachi KTM Fuelled by Milwaukee machine of Conrad Mewse was full throttle today at Lyng taking both moto wins. In the opening race it was the ASA United GASGAS rider Steven Clarke chasing the KTM machine of Mewse and taking second place. Followed by the Bike IT MTX Kawasaki rider Taylor Hammal, Liam Everts in fourth and RFX Whites Transport KTM’s Nathan Dixon in fifth after an impressive qualifying session. The second moto for the MX2 class once again provided some thrilling racing action with Conrad Mewse taking the top step, Ashton Dickinson in second, Crendon Fastrack Honda’s Jay Hague in third, Gabriel Motocross KTM’s John Adamson in fourth and Bike It MTX Kawasaki’s Taylor Hammal in fifth.

In the MX1 class taking the overall for the day at Lyng was Red Bull Factory KTM’s Jeffrey Herlings after two outstanding motos battling neck and neck at times with the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory team rider Ben Watson. Crendon Fastrack Hondas’ Tommy Searle ended the weekend on the podium after some great racing in third. Hitachi KTM Fuelled by Milwaukee’s Adam Sterry in fourth position and Jake Millward in fifth onboard the Verde Substance KTM machine.

The first round of the PP Sports ACU British Womens Motocross Championship got underway at Lyng for the first of three rounds taking place this year with an Official British Title up for grabs at the end of the year. Qualifying saw the KTM machine of Kathryn Booth take the top spot with a time of 2:30.414 followed by Elaine MacEachern and Amie Goodlad.

The Kecks Fastest Lap Awards were awarded to the Big Wheel 85cc, 125cc/250cc Combined, MX1, MX2 and WMX Adult Classes with Gyan Doensen, Jack Lindsay, Nieve Holmes, Conrad Mewse and Jeffrey Herlings taking home the award.

The Championship heads down south to Kent on June 6th to Canada Heights for the next round.
