Freddie Box’s clever at Iron Works! 90 Racing MXC Club Championship Rounds 10 and 11 – Race Report and Results

90 Racing MXC bounded into Iron Works MX at the weekend as it hosted rounds 10 and 11 of their 2020 Club Championship.

2oo plus riders were in attendance on both days and with the Sun out Saturday and the weather gods giving the circuit a natural watering on Saturday night, the track was in superb condition for the two days of racing.

Harry Hall had a blinding opening race in the Auto’s, taking the chequers and beating the superfast title-contending duo of Jay-J Cooper and Freddie Box. Cooper though would fight back to win the remaining Saturday moto’s to take the Round 10 overall ahead of Box and Hall.

Sunday was a new day though and Box was on a mission from the get-go and powered to the first two race victories before Cooper ended the weekend with one of his own but the overall went the way of Box. So it was Box, Cooper and Hall on the podium with Cooper now leading the series by 32 points over Box going into the final two rounds at Fatcat.

In the Junior 65’s Saturday saw Finley Pickering on the top step of the podium with one moto win under his belt with Leo Wright in Second and Lucas Lee third. Hayden Statt took two moto wins but a non-scoring second moto relegated him down the order. Statt would claim a win again on Sunday but that was the only race he would score points in due to breaking his wrist. We wish Hayden a speedy recovery. Lee would improve with every race culminating in winning the final moto and claiming the overall over Pickering and series leader Kameron Greenhalgh.

As has been the case all over the nation, the battles in the Small Wheel 85 class raged hard. Josh Vail with a 2-1-1 scorecard would stand on the top step on Saturday flanked by Chester Hyde in second and Moto 1 winner Ryan Waggott in third. On Sunday though Will Haddock brought his A-game to Iron Works powering to two moto wins and notching the overall in the process over Waggott and Jamie Keith. When it comes to the Championship standings though it is Sonny Rooney who is in control as the series rolls into Fatcats.

McKenzie Marshall was in prime form and took five out of the six Big Wheel 85 wins over the weekend taking the overall on both days. Jay Cheel was the only rider to defeat Marshall and would finish second overall on each occasion with Finlay Boxall third both times. Cheel now leads the standings, 30 points ahead of Lennox Cross.

The racing in the Rookie class was epic, and emerging from it all with victories on both days was Bayliss Utting. Bailey Johnstone was the main challenger and would win Saturdays opening moto but a non-scoring final moto meant he wouldn’t challenge the podium spots, which in the end would see moto three winner Corey Collins in second and Dan Arkell third. On Sunday Utting would go through the card but the battles would be hot behind him between Johnston, Jude Turton, Jaygo Beasty and Collins who would finish in that order overall. It is Collins also, who holds the top spot in the Championship standings with two to go.

The Adult Expert class was lower on numbers than the previous weekend but nevertheless, it was a close-fought thing on both days with Dan Parry edging the win on both days by just two points. On Saturday Parry would collect two moto wins to Jamie Fort’s one, and it was Fort who would be the overall runner up behind Parry, with Scott Hall third. On Sunday Parry kept consistent for his overall as he didn’t take the chequers once. Harry Bradley who would end the day in fourth pulled out a win in the opening moto before Ben Knight notched it up a gear and fired in with the remaining two race victories for second overall with Fort in third. Parry now has an unassailable lead in the series standings.

There were two completely different podiums in the Adult B Intermediate group. On Saturday Gaz Stokell went 1-2-1 for the win over moto 2 victor David Hartley and Darren Robson, while on Sunday Lewis Evans-Yates was joined on the box by Mitchell Raine and Charlie Green in that order. Hartley would win two races on Sunday but zero points in race one dented his hopes of the win. Joe Croft is the series leader.

Cody Everill-Jankowiak was the King of the Novice Members class on Saturday with a three ride win maximum. Josh Weaver was second but would regain the top spot on Sunday. Kristers Karklins rounded out the day one podium and would go one better on Sunday with second with Jack Sutcliffe third. Shaun Murphy and Weaver are now separated by just 4 points as we go into the deciding two rounds.

In the Novice Non Members Guy Britton landed the number one spot from Jamie Williams and Jordan Nolan on Saturday, with Nolan fighting back to win Sunday’s proceedings over Britton and Micky Grey.

Chris Elcock and Matthew Middleton are duking it out for the Over 30’s title, and on Saturday they did the same on the race track, but with 2-1 on race victories, the overall would go the way of Elcock with Middleton second and Gavin Southward third. On Sunday Martyn Gregory dominated with all three race wins and the overall ahead of Clark Davidson and Elcock.
