The First Round of the ACU Southern Centre Enduro Winter Series was at Rogershill Raceway.

Some bad weather blew through on Sunday morning clearing up at 10:30 just in time for the start, lap one could be described as a trifle slippery but lap-on-lap conditions improved, and lap times dropped so that by the middle of the race, conditions were near perfect.

In the Championship class, Brad Rowland got an exceptional hole shot and was three bike lengths ahead out of the first corner. Unfortunately, the lead didn’t last long, as by the end of the first lap Brad King and Ricky Wiggins snuck by. Brad King took the lead briefly, but issues with both brakes left him in the pits for far too long, giving Ricky a chance to extend his lead on the Brads as well as the rest of the field. Ricky took the overall win on his Monsters of Dirt machine, also setting the fastest lap of the day and finishing a good margin clear Second place Brad King. Big respect on the second place despite all the issues! Brad Rowland rode a solid race and finished up in third.

The Expert class was won by Caius Hill, he was the only rider of the group to sneak 11 laps and set the fastest lap by over 30 seconds, amazing result! In second place Jordan Brigden, who had a steady start but fought his way back through the pack, with some excellent lap times. In third was Martin Jessop who had a good day finishing 9th overall.

Gary McCoy took the top spot in the Expert vets, leading from the first lap right until the end. He was kept honest by Adrian Heard who finished close behind in Second. Third place was Danny Hall, who had the second fastest lap time, the fastest lap was set by Mark Cornick on his old cr 250, but he lost touch with the front runners due to his nuts coming loose!

In the Clubman A class, it was young Ollie Samways who took the win setting the fastest lap time of the group by over 20 seconds. In second place was Nick Gifford, who recovered amazingly well from a first-corner crash that left him dead last. Michael Hayes finished in third, putting in some consistent lap times. Finlay Abbott seemed to be the man to beat early on and was up in among the experts until his bike boiled up!

The winner in the Clubman B class was Kirk Giles; he was the only rider in the group to get 10 laps and finished an impressive 23rd overall. In second place was Finlay Taylor, who made a step up from winning sportsman last year, great start to the season in clubman. George Croton, set some very consistent lap times to cruise into third place.

John Rowley took the win in the Clubman vets’ class, finishing comfortably 2 minutes ahead of the next rider, well done! In second was Titus Blackwell, who had a fantastic start which helped him keep third place Wayne Tipton at bay. Tipton finished up in third.

The sportsman Vets’ class was won by Warren Burbage; he had a great day, setting the fastest lap of the group by nearly a minute and a half. Sebastien Picard, who had the lead at the start, but despite great effort, slipped in second. In third place was Dave Miracca, a brilliant result for a relative newbie to the enduro scene!

The Sportsman class was dominated by the Baxter Brothers. Kieran Baxter passed Daniel Houghton for the win early into the second lap of the race and extended his lead, setting some impressive lap times. Second place, in the end, was the consistent Nathan Baxter. Daniel Houghton finished the day in a very respectable third place.

We hope you all enjoyed the lap, we tried to put as much variation into it as possible without any major stoppers and leaving plenty of scope for a very different lap next time you are all here.

As always, a huge thanks to Pete Coles for scrutineering and Craig and Shane for the timing.

Brad, Otto the dog, Chester and Ivan for the help track prepping. The lovely Ladies, Claire, Alice, and Louise for helping with sign on and Ivan (bike issues having prevented him finishing the race) even came back on Monday to help us take it all down!

Also, many thanks to Monsters of Dirt for sponsoring the series, we hope you all appreciated their awesome pre-printed numbers and if you need new graphics after the sand at Bovington, Monsters of Dirt are the place to go!

Entry for the next round hosted by Dorset Enduro opens Thursday 6th October at 7pm via the ACU website! Don’t miss out!
