Festive Funduro Hits Driffield! Raw Enduro Festive Funduro – Race Report and Results

RAW Enduro rounded out their competitive 2021 season, by staging what will now become an annual event for an end of season bash.
The Festive Funduro idea was created to get riders together for a relaxed, fun event. Riders from enduro, trials, and MX, were in attendance, everyone got in the festive spirit after another tough year for many.

Wayne Braybrook hit the target by designing a super long course, easy in nature and interesting around the 650 Acre Driffield site. From beginners to some of the world’s Pro and Expert riders, the attendance was great with lots of happy faces on a very mild winter’s day, despite the heavy rain making conditions muddy after Saturday night.

Three hours was the race duration, with options for Solo Ironmen or Two Man Relay teams, there was something for everyone. Bert’s Crayston overcame a first lap off on his return to UK events, after a weekend away indoors at the Super Enduro, Bert’s rolled up his sleeves to take an impressive Expert Solo Win. Team Steer rider Reece Gazzard rode well to take runner up spot, he now prepares for his winter training ahead of what promises to be a good 2022 season for the lad from Northern Ireland. Sam Bradley took the Clubman solo top spot ahead of Anthony Turner, a late entry into the solo vets saw Simon Tate back in action taking the class win from Alex Tingle.

Fraiser Lampkin opted to run in the adult ranks, and what a good decision it was. Still finding his feet in enduro, this young man simply loves riding his Enduro bike, a total of 11 laps on an 85cc bike solo was pretty good going. Young Guns stole the march in the Clubman and Sportsman Team Classes, Bert Boam and Callum Hughes are two top clubman riders, they teamed up to take the clubman class win and Third overall on the day. Hayden Stansfield and Lucas Travers are riding the crest of a wave at the moment, they worked hard to take the Sportsman win.

As the race duration wound down, track conditions started to dry out on the open going. The woodland sections however stayed very slippery which tested all riders’ line choice, and ground reading skills. Some teams opted for fast single laps, others did a stint of 2 or 3 laps before switching riders. In the Lads and Dads Class Kev and Scott Hipwell were the fastest Santa’s on the day! Scott taking the Lads and dads class holeshot, got them the edge over runners up Chris and Luke Gorse, who thoroughly enjoyed their lads and dads day.

Tom Nelson and Lucas Newsome grabbed the Novice Team win, with Conner Pickering and Evan Sharpe placing runner up. MX regulars Ben and Jimmy Margetson enjoyed their winter Funduro outing, running sprint laps the pair showed great pace as they attacked the Driffield course. Sam Winterburn and Chloe Richardson ground out 14 laps to take runner up spot in the Expert Team class.

The event was a huge success, the winter Funduro concept will continue from RAW Enduro through the winter months weather permitting.

A huge heartfelt thank you to everyone who has supported RAW Enduro by attending these events in 2021. 2022 sees a big shake up in terms of events and championships. A “less is more” approach from Wayne Braybrook and his team at RAW, will make 2022 very interesting, affordable, and enjoyable with the events planned for the coming season.
