Double MXGB podium Bonanza for Dirt Store Triumph at Blaxhall

Dirt Store Triumph Racing secured double podium celebrations and a season-best result at Round 3 of the 2025 MXGB Championship, with Billy Askew and Tommy Searle notching podium finishes in MX2 and Joel Rizzi securing a season-best in MX1.

MX2 Class: Podium Success For Askew and Searle:

Spectators crammed into the Blaxhall Circuit to witness a great day of racing, and the Dirt Store Triumph duo of Billy Askew and Tommy Searle delivered an exciting show for the big Suffolk crowd on route to securing another double podium for the team.

Race 1 saw Askew move into 2nd within the first few turns and begin the chase to match the impressive pace of race leader Oriol Oliver. While Askew found his rhythm in 2nd, Searle climbed into 3rd by lap two and set his sights on reeling in his young teammate. On the final lap, Searle applied intense pressure to Askew’s rear wheel and edged past him at the line by an incredibly slim margin of 0.001 seconds! The late-race charge secured Searle 2nd place and pushed Askew back to 3rd, putting both riders in prime position to place their Triumph machines on the overall podium.

In Race 2, Searle made a strong start and held 2nd position after the opening lap. Askew followed closely behind and soon made his way past the veteran to move into 2nd, once again setting his sights on matching the impressive pace of race leader Oriol Oliver. Learning from his mistakes in Race 1, Askew didn’t allow Searle to close in this time—opening up a 15-second gap over his Triumph teammate as he rode home to secure 2nd place in the race and 2nd overall for the weekend. While Searle was unable to reel in Askew, he faced little pressure from behind and held 3rd place unchallenged, finishing 3rd in both the race and the overall weekend classification.

Searle retains the red plate heading into Round 4, while Askew leapfrogs Bobby Bruce in the championship standings—putting Triumph in sole control of both the MX2 and U21 championship points.

MX1 Class: Season Best Result For Rizzi:

In the MX1 class Joel Rizzi recorded his best result to date aboard the Triumph TF 450-RC. He started the day with a solid 7th place in qualifying, but a difficult start in Race 1 left the MX1 rookie just inside the points-paying positions after the opening lap. Rizzi battled hard throughout the gruelling 14-lap race, steadily making his way forward to cross the line in 13th as the chequered flag waved.

A stronger start in Race 2 allowed Rizzi to showcase his continued progression aboard the 450cc machine. After holding 9th for the first half of the race, he moved up to 7th by lap ten. Amid the intense battles within the top-10 pack, Rizzi lost one position a lap later but held firm to secure 8th place in the race and 10th overall for the weekend.

Rizzi currently holds 14th in the MX1 Championship Standings and now has time to continue to build his experience and time aboard his machine before round four of the MXGB Championship.

Weekend Summary:

It was an outstanding weekend in the MX2 class. Billy applied pivotal lessons learned from Tommy, demonstrating growing maturity as he implemented them in the following race. Tommy’s experience was once again on full display, securing yet another podium finish. Meanwhile, Joel bounced back strongly after his crash at Canada Heights, continuing to show promising progress aboard the 450.

With the MX2 red plate remaining firmly on Searle’s machine, Billy now sitting 2nd in the championship and leading the U21 standings, and Joel coming off a season-best result, the team heads into Round Four of the MXGB at Preston Docks full of confidence and ready for battle.

Billy Askew is gearing up to represent the team at the upcoming EMX250 round at Matterley Basin and is eager to perform well in front of the home crowd.

Billy Askew: “Home race, I have to pull my finger out, a bit of pressure but I am actually really excited for it all. I have to put everything together, make sure I get two good starts, execute qualifying and the whole weekend correctly and I know I can be up front. It would be nice put it on the box in front of everyone and that’s the plan!”

The team extends its thanks to all sponsors and technical partners for their continued support and dedication. Dirt Store Triumph Racing remains committed to keeping their run of good form going over the remaining rounds.
