As part of the ACU’s ongoing development plans for grass track racing in the UK, the Right Hand Sidecar Working Group held its first meeting last week—marking an important step toward strengthening the future of the sport.

Chaired by former Masters champion Ivor Matthews, the group brings together current riders, organisers, and technical experts. The meeting sparked lively and constructive debate, with all members sharing their perspectives on the key challenges and opportunities facing the 1000cc and clubman classes.

Key priority areas identified include:
• Rider vision – including a review of dirt deflectors/mudflaps
• Track standards – layout, preparation, and maintenance
• Rider and passenger development – training, novice pathways, fitness, and progression within the clubman class
• Adherence to rules – enhanced support for officials, improved measurement tools, and riding standards

These discussions will now shape the group’s focus over the coming months, with the next meeting already scheduled. While formal proposals are targeted for 2026, the group is committed to taking practical steps during the current season—starting with testing and developing solutions to improve rider visibility.

This initiative marks a significant move toward improving both the safety and sustainability of right hand sidecar racing, with collaboration and stakeholder input at its core. More updates to follow as the work progresses.
