Bolt claims Extreme title in the Ravines! British Extreme Enduro Championship Round 3 – Report and Results
Billy Bolt has been crowned the 2020 ACU Fast Eddy British Extreme Enduro Champion after winning Dirtbike Action’s Putoline Mini Ravines Extreme Enduro on Sunday.
John Kerwin and his team put on a super long 10-mile lap at the fantastic Helmsley venue in North Yorkshire, mixing up traditional time card type enduro terrain and intense extreme sections concentrating on the infamous dark ravine.
Rain on Thursday, Friday and Saturday added to the toughness of the event which held even the worlds best athletes to completing just 5 laps in the 2 and a half hour race.
From the offset it was clear the battle for the win was going to be between reigning champ, Red Bull KTM’s Jonny Walker, and 2020 FIM SuperEnduro World Champion Billy Bolt of Rockstar Husqvarna with these two trading places during the first few hours of the race.
On the final lap Walker had to relinquish the chase after clipping a tree resulting in an injury, a DNF, and a trip back to the paddock on the back of a marshalls bike.
So it was Bolt with the win followed by William Hoare who has been honing his skills in the lockdown period and is looking to be a true contender in future extreme events. Joe Deakin on his Steer Commercials Sherco is starting to get into the groove of the Extreme events and rode fantastic for third with Charlie Frost the only other rider to complete the full five laps in fourth. Other big-name victims of the course and non-finishers were Paul Bolton, Jono Richardson and Sam Winterburn.
Stuart Mack pulled through from a bad start when his chain came off to win the Expert class over Tough 100 Champion Lee Sampson, with Dave Woods who has hardly been on the bike in 2020 in a remarkable third.
Young gun Richard Moorhouse showed his talent and potential by winning the Clubman by 4 minutes over Jordan Hayes in second and Mitchell Brightmore in third, with only fourth-place finisher Shaun Downing also completing four laps with the top three.
Tough old Vet Harold Crawford showed he too could wrestle his machine around for 4 arduous laps, earning him the victory in the Elite Vets from Paul Daley-Smith and Paul Westgarth.
Ben Tennant was outstanding in the Sportsman class but his lead was kept to under a minute by runner up Scott Hipwell with Anth Turner taking the final podium spot.
In the Sportsman Vets, Andy Longden was a clear winner beating second-placed Simon Nutter by over 13 minutes. Murray Shotter would finish third.
The Youth racers had to ride the same course as the adults and man was it tough for them with quite a few of them choosing this to be their first event on a 125, but this didn’t deter them and every single one of them gave it their all.
Brandon Burns has a bright future in the sport and already would be a tough competitor in the Adult ranks. Brandon would take his victory over Doug Lote by more than seven minutes with Ryan Thompson in third.
Special mentions for Bert Boam, Sam Boyd and Billy Rippon for making it around three laps of the course on their debut 125cc appearance after riding the small 85cc machines previously.
Once again Dirtbike Action provided a fantastic Extreme Enduro course that was challenging but fun for the full line up of 90 riders.
The final round of the 2020 series takes place at H2O, Selattyn, near Oswestry, on Saturday the 5th September with entries now open.
