Wayne’s World! 2022 Formula Grasstrack Championship Round 6 – Race Report & Results

Wayne Broadhurst Dominated the 6th round of the H & N Supplies Ltd. Formula Grasstrack championship on Saturday, storming to a 6-ride maximum in the heats before going on to take victory in the Tom Thomas Memorial final. Broadhurst now leads rival Kevin Gwillam by a single point in the championship with Gwillam finishing 3rd on the day.

A critical moment in the day’s proceedings came in the final leg when Broadhurst, Gwillam, Colin How & Andrew Rowson met. 5 Riders charging into turn one, aiming for the same piece of track and Broadhurst would come off worse, falling at the apex of the corner. The decision was a re-run with no one deemed at fault. Broadhurst wouldn’t make the same mistake twice, getting his wheels infront entering turn 1 to go on to take victory.

Nantwich’s David Binns would split Gwillam and Broadhurst overall in 2nd place finishing 1 point behind Broadhurst. Young charger Jake Breeze rode consistently in the heats to take 4th despite a spectacular slide off over the finish line in his 2nd ride. Stephen Mace had an eventful afternoon. The man from Shrewsbury had a fall in practice, snaping a clutch leaver and with no spare, he was gifted one from the Broadhurst toolbox meaning he could race. Mace would take a race win in his opening ride and rode consistently all afternoon to take 5th overall. But disaster would strike in the Final when mace would fall on bend 4 lap 4 whilst lying 3rd, calling an early finish to the 6-lap final and gifting Nick Bull 3rd place behind Broadhurst and Gwillam. Minsterley’s Colin How would round out the top 6 with a typically consistent run of form.

Gino Casale will be left wondering what might have been. The Junior champion was in a comfortable 3rd place in his opening rid behind Binns and Gwillam before falling on the final corner. He would re-group and go on to take two wins with a total of 38 points but would have finished a potential 4th rather than 8th had he stayed on.

Joe Crewe continued his junior class dominance only dropping one point to the fast-gating Max Derrick in their 4th ride. Derrick would take 2nd overall ahead of Jack Crewe in 3rd. Jack Baker managed 4th despite a fall in his 1st ride and newcomer Frank Wells took 5th despite issues with his chain in his 5th ride.

Ollie Binns looked like he would go on to continue his winning ways but after 4 straight wins, The cub champion wound not come out again, suffering with a headache. This gifted victory to The Wirral’s Logan Price with Naythan Kukla 2nd and Binns relegated to 3rd. Archie Whitelam returned to FGA action after missing round 4 due to bike issues. The Nottingham youngster was fast gating in the heats, getting used to the track to take 4th overall. In the Cub final, Whitelam would make his customary lightning start to lead Kukla and Price into turn one. Price and Kukla would exchange positions in a 4-lap battle which allowed the smooth riding Whitelam to pull clear at the front to take the win. Kukla would hold onto 2nd place.

Charlie Dowd would continue his impressive winning form in the Auto Cadets, with AJ Bence in 2nd. Jessica Cox was the sole Cadet rider after parking up her E-Bike and deciding to step up to the 110cc Cadet class. Cox improved with every ride and wasn’t far away from the boys in the auto cadet class.

Toby Cossar would dominate the E-bike class, after squeezing every ounce of power out of his Electric machine to take a comfortable win ahead of Lily Bence who enjoyed herself in 2nd place.

Round 6 takes place on 23rd July at Hampton Hall near Malpas. Free Admission to spectators and more information is available at www.formulagrasstrack.com or find us on Facebook.
