Waggott whips up a storm at Farleigh! 2025 Acerbis Amateur Nationals Round 3 – Race Report & Results

After a summer break, the 2025 Acerbis Amateur Nationals fired back into life at the historic Farleigh Castle, and as per usual, it provided a challenge to organisers and riders alike as dry dusty conditions were on the menu for the third round of the series.

The Roberts Plant Engineers Vets Over 50 class was first out with FUS Marsh team rider Phil Mercer continuing on his winning run, adding another 4 to his tally, but he was made to work for it as fellow former Grand Prix rider David Campbell was hot on his heels aboard his 500 Honda. Simon Bonser led most of the first race until the flying Mercer pipped him to the line, meaning a 2-3-3-3 scorecard for third overall was the eventual result. Adrian Bradley and Shaun Askins rounded out the top five.

James Dodd

In the Acerbis MX1 category, it was another FUS Marsh rider claiming top spot as James Dodd took home a maximum four wins from four starts and put himself well out front in terms of the points chase. Liam Gale was a wildcard for the weekend and claimed runner-up overall with a bag full of second-place finishes, while Aaron Patstone, another rider who was just a wildcard for the weekend, claimed the final step of the podium with three third-place finishes backed up by a fourth. Thomas Dodsworth and Reece Waine rounded out the top five.

Henry Williams and Tyla Hooley battling it out for MX2 glory

It was a battle royale in the Craigs Motorcycles MX2 class as the top two, Tyla Hooley and Henry Williams, fresh from their points-scoring rides at the British Championship last weekend, went at it all weekend long. Hooley took both wins on Saturday, fending off Williams, but in the first moto on day two, Williams managed to overhaul the points leader and take a race win. In the final moto, however, Hooley, despite a last lap fall in the woods, took the win and with it the overall, leaving Williams to settle for second spot. Scott Hamilton and Alfie Calvert shared the third and fourth places over the course of the weekend, with Hamilton taking third on the final race result. Ezra Blackwell took home fifth position.

Damo Styrdom

In the Moto Connection 125 2 stroke class, Cumbrian Ryan Waggott dominated the weekend, taking home four wins and a maximum points haul, extending his lead at the top of the standings. Local man Paul Neale gave it everything he could, but just couldn’t do anything about the flying Cumbrian and so had to settle for runner-up. Damon Strydom is Waggott’s closest championship challenger and third overall at Farleigh, which means he is still in the fight with two rounds to go. Jamie Smith took home a well-earned fourth, and Aaron Colley took his trusty Honda to fifth overall.

Paul Neale

Joe Jones eliminated the 14-point gap to the top in the California MX Dreams Open 2-stroke class, taking three wins from four and the overall honours over the weekend. Jones had to fend off Archie Hicks for the overall, however, as a charge in the third encounter from Hicks gave him the race win, which helped him to claim the runner-up spot overall. Patrick Jackson saw his series lead slip away as an eighth in race one hindered his point tally for the weekend, and he now has a small deficit going to Culham. The Yamaha man managed to climb to the third step of the podium, however, pipping Olly Jones by two points, while Charlie Hucklebridge rounded out the top five.

Joe Jones

In the Vets Over 40 category, former MX1 champion Andy Wilson had a dominant weekend, claiming all four race wins on his way to the overall honours ahead of Sam Calow, who battled all weekend with Lee Martin but eventually managed to take home the runner-up spot overall. Martin, however, managed to hold on to his points lead with third overall, but it will be all to play for in the final two rounds as the gap is now down to less than 30 points. Carl Stannard had another consistent weekend of racing, ending with fourth overall, as Alan Jones got himself into the prize money with fifth.

Andy Wilson

The Motoverde Ladies category was a hotly contested one as Grace Richards and Nadiya Jones went at it for the honours. Richards took the first two race victories but the tables turned in the third encounter as Jones hassled her the whole race to take the win on the final lap. It was a winner-takes-all duel in the final race, and it was Richards who took the final race win and the honours with it. Jones had to settle for runner-up while Hannah Jones rounded off the top three in third.

Grace Richards

In the Manchester Xtreme Junior Open class, it was all about consistency as to who would stand on the top step, and James Milne did that perfectly, taking home a 2-2-3-2 scorecard to take his first overall victory of the year and elevate himself in the championship. Liam Deegan took the first two race wins but in the end had to settle for the runner-up spot as Matt Fuller’s 6-5-4-3 results were good enough to get him onto the lower step of the rostrum. Tom Shutler took the final race win to give him fourth overall, and Frankie Ellwell finished the weekend fifth.

Curtis Roberts

An addition to the usual classes was a Super Evo and Evo race, and in the Super Evo class, Ross Millard took three wins and a second to give him the overall from former Open 2 stroke champion Ty Kellett, who took a race win of his own aboard his 500 Kawasaki. Callum Watson finished third.

Archie Hicks

In the Evo category, Leighton Holmes took two wins and two runner-up spots, which was enough to give him the overall ahead of John McKenzie in second, and Alfie Calvert doubled up on classes alongside his usual MX2 class and stood on the podium in third.

The series now only has a 3-week break, and it heads to Culham for round four of the 2025 season.
