16-year-old Cornish racer Zane Stephens put in some impressive performances in the 125cc class of the Motul ACU British Motocross Championship last year, finishing in 7th and putting in some superb rides up and down the country, but even more so on home turf at Landrake.
Now he is elevating himself to the Pro ranks and racing in the MX2 class of the British Champs, so we caught up with him as he heads into his Rookie Pro Season…
Dirt Hub: First up, 2025 was a great season for you in a stacked 125 class. Were you pleased with how it went?
Zane: I was happy with my riding. We changed engine tuners halfway through the season, and the team was fantastic; however, my starts were very inconsistent, resulting in me coming from the back in most races.
DH: How was it riding it in the full championship?
Zane: I feel that the British championship series this year took a massive step in the right direction, and it was good to be a part of it

DH: You did make some superb starts, though most notably at your local track at Landrake. Your Dad was a renowned good starter from his Speedway days, so has he passed some of his knowledge down to you?
Zane: I can start, but I don’t have my dad’s consistency in that department just yet
DH: For 2026, you have moved up to the Pro MX2 ranks… why have you moved up rather than stay down and have another year in the 125s?
Zane: During the end of 2025, I rode a Honda 250f and felt I really gelled with it. I know I have moved up early, but that is something I have done every year during my racing career

DH: How has your winter prep been on the 250, and what brand of bike are you riding?
Zane: This year, I will be riding a Honda 250F, I have recently started a level 3 apprenticeship as a vehicle technician, so I haven’t ridden as much as I would’ve liked up to this point, but I feel I have less pressure on my shoulder,s which is how I prefer it.
DH: Will you be riding for a team?
Zane: For the 2026 season, the S Briggs youth development team are once again 110% behind me, and I am so pleased to go into my 3rd year representing them. These guys are an amazing addition to British motocross

DH: What are your thoughts and expectations for your rookie year in MX2? Do you have any targets?
Zane: I’m looking forward to the challenge; it’s a stacked class, but it will be a great experience. I’m only young, so hopefully I will have plenty of time in the class.
DH: Will you be racing in any other championships in 2026?
Zane: I will be wildcarding some other events during the season
DH: Is there anyone you would like to thank for their support?
Zane: I want to thank Spencer and Bradley Briggs, Stef Fred and Danny, St Blazey MX, Moto 33 Suspension, Johnny Hawkins ( Hawkins Motors), Ryan at 4 Power, Store114, Flex MX, Pirelli, Ninju Juice, AGS, Envy Wheels, Uggly and Co, Steve Liddington (Bathroom Studio), Matt Bardoe Groundworks, Jc Coaching, Rapid GFX and everyone else who helps me out
