Roberts runs rampage at Wickwar! 2025 UK EVO MX Championship - Race Report & Results

Back on Sunday, May 11th, round 3 of the 2025 UK Evo MX Championships took place at Wickwar and had attracted a big entry. Water had been put down prior to the meeting but with the sun out early morning the track was to dry very quickly and with dust becoming a problem and in the interest for the riders safety the decision was made not to run the third block of racing but never the less there was some good racing to be seen in the two blocks which took place and gave the many spectators who were there in numbers some good entertainment.

Race Report and Images by Dave Rich

In the Ultra Evo Under 50’s class there was no stopping Kris Ayres who stormed away at the front in both races to take the chequered flag on both occasions but there was a good battle going on behind Ayres as to who was going to take second overall on the day as both Cory Nemeth and Rory Merchant tied on points at the end of the two races after both taking a second and a third each, but by virtue of the better result in the last race Nemeth took second overall, where as in the Over 50’s class Craig Pratley continued his winning ways and took the overall with two wins from Casey Jones who finished second to Pratley in both races taking second overall and third overall with a brace of third place finishes was Stephen Sparrow.

Kris Ayres was unstoppable in the Ultra Evo under 50’s class

In the Super Evo Under 40’s class, it was Chuck Davies who took the win in the opening race, but he was put under a lot of pressure from Luke Dean in the closing stages of the race and literally held Dean off at the line and took the chequered flag by half a second. Davies got the best start in the second moto, but he seemed to have a problem after the opening lap and was passed by both Dean and Jamie Skuse, who had a better start in this one. Davies was to pull out a lap later, but as the race went on, Dean was to ease away at the front to take the win, which was to give him the overall. Skuse took second in the race, which guaranteed him second overall, with third overall going to Sean Wainwright.

In the Over 40’s class there was no stopping Welshman Glen Phillips who showed his class in both races taking the wins and the overall with Nathan Davies with two second place finishes taking second overall ahead of Lee Brown with two third place results taking third overall, where as in the Over 50’s class it was Jason Morris who once he hit the front in both races after not the best of starts was a runaway winner in both races with Simon Dearing with two second place finishes to Morris taking second overall with two third place finishes giving Chris Brown third overall.

Glen Phillips was on a mission in the Super Evo over 40’s class

In the Evo 125 class there is always some of the best racing of the day and Wickwar was no different to the first two rounds with Aaron Colley leading the opening race from the off ahead of a few fallers on the first corner and by the end of the third lap Colley was being caught by Daryl Bolter who was absolutely flying and managed to get inside of Colley on a uphill righthander two laps from the end to take the lead and from there went on to take the win from Colley with Jordan Barrs a close third. The second race was a bit of a start to finish race as Bolter led from the off from Elliott Barrs with Jordan Barrs tucked in third which was how the race finished which gave Bolter the overall ahead of Jordan Barrs even though he finished on the same points as Colley but by virtue of beating Colley in the second race gave him second overall.

Aaron Colley giving his all in the Evo 125 class

In the Evo 250 class there was some close battles with James Kensington eventually winning the opening race from Gareth Artus where in the second moto Kensington did lead the race from the off before being put under pressure from Artus mid race which continued in to the last lap where Artus knew that he needed to get pass Kensington if he was going to take the overall which was exactly what Artus did leaving his breaking a bit later than Kensington going down one of the hills and got the inside line to take the lead and from there he went on to take the chequered flag from Kensington who took second overall on the same points with John McKenzie taking third overall with two third place results.

The Evo 500 class saw a real good tussle in the opening race between Nigel Kibble and Ben Putnam with Kibble leading early doors before Putnam took over on lap five, but Putnam’s lead was short lived as Kibble came back at him and regained the lead a lap later and from there went on to take the win from Putnam with Keirren Genge a distant third. The second moto saw Kibble again lead the race early on before Putnam got past to take the lead, but this time Kibble had no answer to Putnam, who maintained his lead and took the win from Kibble with Genge again taking third. Putnam and Kibble were tied on points, but Putnam was declared the overall winner by the better result in the second race, with Genge taking third overall.

The Vets Evo Over 45 class saw a win each for Dean Warren and Rob Mead with Mead getting the better of Warren in the opening race on the last couple of laps where as in the second race Warren used a clear track in front of him to great advantage after hitting the front from the off and was to have a comfortable lead that was to much for Mead to close down and Warren took the win and the overall by the better result in the second race with third overall going to David Alderton and in the Vets Over 60’s class it was Cornishman Mark Roberts who won the opening race from Mike Allport who got the better of Martin King on the last lap. Roberts was in fine form and took the second race win again from Allport, which in the end gave them first and second overall, with third overall going to Greg Cox.

Matt Nash took the overall in the Twinshock under 50’s class

In the Twinshock Under 50’s class it was Scott Reed who was triumphant in the opening race with Matt Nash taking the win in the second moto which gave Nash the overall from Reed who just pipped Keir Tett by one point who took third overall and in the Over 50’s Twinshocks it was James Reeves who got the better of early leader Kevin Reed in the opening race who took the win and with a good start in race two Reeves raced away to notch up the win again and take the overall with Andrew Batten with two good results taking second overall and third overall went to Gary Hillier.

Joshua Senter turning on the style in the Modern 2-Stroke under 50’s class

The Modern 2-Stroke Under 50’s class saw Jay Lewis lead the proceeding in the opening race before being put under pressure from Harrison McCann who eventually found away pass Lewis on lap five and from that point went on to take the win from Lewis with Archie Hicks after a long battle with Kris Ayres taking third. The second moto was abit of a precession as it was Hicks who led from the off from Aryes and McCann which was how it finished at the chequered flag. Hicks and McCann were tied on points at the end of the day but as with other classes by virtue of the better result in the second race it was Hicks who took the overall with Ayres and Lewis also tied for third overall, but it was Ayres who took it after beating Lewis in the second race.

No 91 Simon Molter holding off Scott Senter in the Modern 2-Stroke over 50’s class

In the Modern 2-Stroke Over 50’s class all eyes were on Terry House who was out on his 1981 HM Racing 490 Maico who was to lead from the off in the opening race and was to take a comfortable win with Chris Jones coming through to take second after passing Kevin Sanders towards the end of the race. In the second moto House did lead for the first lap, but Jones was to take the lead on the second lap and was to go on to take the win, but there was a battle royal going on behind him between Sanders and House which was to go down to the last lap when House got the better of Sanders to take that second spot, but it was Hicks with the better results in race two who took the overall from House with Sanders taking third overall.
